The new HPD website is live!

Our new site features lots of fun and useful information including cool event photos, inspiring videos about livable citiesbike route maps, an event calendar, safety and equipment tips, relevant local and national news, and plenty of information about HPD's mission, goals, ongoing activities, and new projects and initiatives. Check it out and let me know what you think: http://humanpowereddelray.org/

We raised some much needed funds at our HPD raffle at WellFest 2015. Special thanks to Colony Hotel, Richwagen's Bike and Sport, and Exhilaride for their generous prize donations and to Ken Parker for designing those colorful, eye-catching raffle posters!

Inspired by the success of the Bike2Market program at Delray GreenMarket, we're off and running with a brand new Bike2Brunch program beginning in April. Look for more details below.

And don't forget to stop by the HPD booth at the Delray GreenMarket on Saturdays and say hello before the market closes for the season (May 9). Just look for the most colorful booth tent at the market - that'll be us!

Thanks to Bill Bathurst for leading the effort to make sure HPD's event presence conveys the same beauty and joy of healthful walking and bicycling in beautiful urban centers.

HPD Map of Scenic Bike Rides - HPD and Delray Beach Bike Club have put together a wonderful, version 1.0 map highlighting four scenic bike rides in Delray Beach. We expect these maps to evolve over time and to include historic sites and other points-of-interest. View and download the map (PDF file) from the new HPD website.

Why did you get involved in Human Powered Delray?
I am an active and frequent pedestrian commuter, and I feel all areas of Delray Beach should be walkable as well as bikeable. As Delray grows, it is more important than ever to ensure that all future development in Delray puts the needs of people first. Delray is a great town to live in and to visit, but if once you get here you cannot walk from point a to point b because of lack of proper sidewalks, we will begin to lose our luster.

Several years ago, as my two sons were moving toward their Eagle Scout ranks, they both picked Eagle Scout projects that included installing bike racks. It really opened our eyes to the need for more bike racks in Delray Beach, as well as for the need to make the city more bikeable and walkable. To help with that, we started a website called “Bike Walk Delray Beach.” Shortly thereafter, we discovered Human Powered Delray and put all our efforts toward the common cause!

Where is your favorite place to walk or ride in Delray Beach?

On The Horizon

Bike2Brunch - Following up on our hugely successful Bike2Market program with Delray’s Green Market, HPD is working on a new initiative in collaboration with restaurateur Dennis Max. Bike2Brunch will focus on Sunday bike riders who are looking for delicious food after cruising the scenic streets of Delray. Dennis will launch (with a little help from HPD) a Sunday brunch program on April 12 (10am - 3pm) at Max's Social House, 116 NE 6th Ave. The program is designed to appeal to cyclists and will include secure, free parking; designated seating; and a complementary libation. As a 4-week experiment, we hope Bike2Brunch jump starts a wonderful new tradition in Delray of enjoyable bike rides, beautiful townscapes, and creative and healthful cuisine and stimulating conversation with fellow cyclists. For more details: Bike2Brunch page on HPD website
