New Gardiner Food Co-op Topic of January Breakfast Meeting

The Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will welcome Veronique Vendette, Chair of the Board, Gardiner Food Co-op & Café, to discuss the co-op under development. Come learn how this new, member-based enterprise will support family farms, organic and sustainable agriculture, nutrition education and access to healthy foods as well as local jobs and economic activity in our region.

$7 payable at the door.  A light breakfast will be provided beginning at 7:15am.  The meeting will start at 7:30am and end promptly at 8:30am.  Public welcome; RSVPs not necessary. Please enter through the rear of the building. Sponsored by Brian S. Berry and Associates, CPAs.

Chamber Opens Search for Executive Director

 


The Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber seeks a part-time Executive Director to work with the Board of Directors to implement the full range of Chamber activities including administration, membership development and fundraising, community and economic development initiatives and marketing of the Chamber and the Winthrop Lakes Region.

The ideal candidate will have:

 
  • a four-year degree in a business or non-profit management related field or the equivalent of education and work experience
  • at least three years of community or public service experience, fundraising and/or grant writing experience
  • knowledge of nonprofit and business budgeting, management and record keeping
  • exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong time management and organizational skills, and be adept with Microsoft Office and web-based applications and social media tools

Position is contract-based; compensation is commensurate with experience. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until this position is filled; we hope to fill it in early 2015. Holiday Wrap-Up

The weather did not cooperate for the parade this year, or allow decorations to be posted as usual on Main Street. We will contact businesses who generously sponsored the festivities shortly with additional information. Thank you very much for your support of the Chamber and our communities.

Monmouth/Winthrop Adult Ed Free College Prep Course
A unique opportunity to earn free college credits from UMA and KVCC offered through Monmouth/Winthrop and Gardiner Adult Education.

This free 15-week course will give adult students tools and strategies to gain confidence and succeed in college.

Students will participate in career exploration, learn note-taking and test-taking skills, financial literacy, and time management. Technology will be used in the classroom for online discussions and research presentations. Monmouth/Winthrop Adult Ed Orientation
Are you ready to get your HiSET® High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly the GED) or high school diploma? Do you need help preparing for HiSET® testing? Are you ready to enter college and need help with applications, Accuplacer tests, financial assistance or college prep courses such as Algebra or Chemistry?
 
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, please call Monmouth/Winthrop Adult & Community Education at 377-2265 to register for Career Pathways Orientation.  We will hold orientation at our location Tuesday, January 13, 2015.  The morning session is 9:00am to 12:00pm and the evening session is 4:30pm to 7:30pm. This is where you will meet the staff and other students, take pre-tests to determine your educational needs and learn how we can work together to meet those needs. We also offer the opportunity for career advising and discussions about using technology.  By the end of the class you will get your test results and know the next step toward your educational success.

On November 10, 2014, Cathy suffered a ruptured category five aneurysm.  She is currently doing extremely well, but will have a LONG road ahead to recovery.  All proceeds will go to help Cathy and her family in this process.

A large silent ticket auction will be held on February 15, 2015 at
Winthrop High School.
