WLRCC March Breakfast Meeting to Spotlight Elder Financial Abuse

Thursday, March 5, 2015, 7:15am
Winthrop Commerce Center Community Room, 149 Main Street, Winthrop

According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), financial exploitation of older Americans is a growing epidemic that cost seniors an estimated $2.9 billion in 2010.  In as many of 90 percent of these financial abuse cases, the senior is victimized by someone he or she knows well.  Maine is a nationwide leader in developing programs that address elder abuse, led largely by the efforts of Legal Services for the Elderly (LSE). Jill Randall, LSE staff attorney, will talk about the organization's work in this arena and how to spot, prevent, and take action if you suspect a case of elder abuse.

For more on this issue, you can view this congressional hearing from the Special Committee on Aging, chaired by Maine Senator Susan Collins.

$7 payable at the door.  A light breakfast will be provided beginning at 7:15am.  The meeting will start at 7:30am and end promptly at 8:30am.  Public welcome; RSVPs not necessary. Please enter through the rear of the building. Sponsored by Brian S. Berry and Associates, CPAs.
