Curriculum Enhancement

Recent Highlights 
Fifth Graders in Redshaw, Emig and Frieden classes visited the Mercer Slough. Walking muddy trails, students learned about the species found in the wetlands, and felt dirt samples to compare forest and wetland dirt.  Back in the lab, the students jumped into their scientist roles and tested the slough’s oxygen level and studied pH. The students also had fun searching for organisms in samples of the slough’s water. 

Skate into Spring with Spiritridge Pals! 
When: Thursday, March 26 6:00—8:00 p.m.
Where: Skate King 2301 140th Ave. NE Bellevue 
Admission: $6.00 Cash or Check (made out to Spiritridge PTSA) 
Parents and siblings are welcome to skate, too!

This is not a drop-off event. Children must have a parent or guardian on the premises.
All skaters who come in Spiritwear will receive a treat. Color and bring the Skate Night coloring sheet that comes in the Friday packets to receive another treat!
Volunteer to help with the ticket booth and passing out treats here.

 Multi-Cultural Night  April 2nd
Join us for anther fantastic Spiritridge Tradition!  Celebrating the many cultures of Spiritridge families, this year our event will include a display of Academic Challenge paper dolls, a potluck buffet, an interactive Global Village with prizes performances from different cultures. Volunteers are needed to help make the evening a success. Sign up to help here.

The Global Village needs you! Students and families will visit the Global Village to learn about different countries and cultures of our school. Join with other families  to create a display representing personal cultures, countries you've visited, or  a country  you are be interested in sharing! Canada? Netherlands? Philippines? Mexico? USA? Email Melissa at sam_mel@yahoo.com to participate!

Cultural Buffet: We're looking forward to sampling food from around the world! Please bring a favorite dish – bites, entree, snack or dessert representing your heritage. Help us create a delicious experience for our community. Please include menu card for your dish to identify country/ingredients/allergies

Student Performance Registration: We have student performers already in place for India, Hawaii, and Russia. If your student would like to perform a song, a dance, martial arts, or an instrument from another country (even USA!)  please contact Sheryl Pinheiro at  sherylpinheiro@hotmail.com

Academic Challenge Participation:  The Academic Challenge activity is to decorate the paper doll template with a cultural outfit and answer a questionnaire. This is due Thursday March 26th. Detailed instructions and templates are on the web site here
Spiritridge Science Fair Registration
Calling all Spiritridge Scientists! The science fair will be Tuesday April 21st. Auction Basket Contributions
Besides attending you can help by contributing to your classroom basket. All classrooms select a theme for family contributions to the basket that will be up for bid at the auction.  Contact your Panther Parent,or  Linda and Amy at the front desk.  for more information.
Bellevue PTSA Information Nights:
Empathy & Education-March 25
 A panel of experts will be discussing the importance and benefits of instilling empathy in students. Topics Include:
  • understanding WHY empathy is important -benefits to the child, class and school
  • ideas/tools of what parents can do to instill empathy
  • understanding how you can practice expressing empathy towards your child
  • impact on academics and social-emotional development

Bellevue Schools Foundation / VIBES Volunteering presented by the Bellevue Schools Foundation - April 1st
Representatives from the Bellevue Schools Foundation will be discussing:
- What is the Bellevue Schools Foundation?
- Why is it important to our community?
- What initiatives and programs does the Bellevue Schools Foundation support and fund?
- What is the VIBES program?
- Different ways the community can be involved and why it is so critical right now.
