Greetings,

Have you ever learned something new that you just couldn’t wait to tell your friends or colleagues about?

Have you ever had a situation in life where you think “If I had only known!”

Both of these things are true for me right now. And it’s all because of Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care for people with dementia.

Each week, at virtually every location where I sing, I engage with people who have varying degrees of dementia. The training I have participated in with Teepa Snow has had a huge positive impact on how I approach and interact and engage with everyone. And it can do the same for you and for the families you serve and the staff that you supervise.

But don’t take it from me. Here’s what Deb Nichols from Bay Ridge Assisted Living had to say:

"I'm glad I had the opportunity for my staff to train with Teepa's materials. We've seen some excellent results. It taught everyone something. It was one training session they were actually enthused about and they couldn't wait for the next one."

Teepa Snow’s mission is to “help families and professionals better understand how it feels to be living with dementia, and related challenges” and to provide training in her Positive Approach to Care so that families and professionals have real tools and strategies to make life better for everyone.

Read on to learn more and please don’t wait another day before you go to Teepa’s website where you can access a wealth of information and review the training DVDs.

OK – stepping down from my soapbox now.

Yours enthusiastically,
Mary Sue

PS. Shout out and many thanks to Karen Bell at Bay Ridge Assisted Living for introducing me to Teepa Snow’s work. Karen – You rock!

Teepa Snow’s “Positive Approach to Care (PAC) Philosophy"
encourages Care Partners to:

  • Respond to a person’s change in cognition and abilities in a way that is not hurtful or offensive
  • Understand that, with practice, common “reactions” to the person with dementia can become thoughtful “responses” that improve quality of life for everyone involved
  • Recognize that the person with dementia is “doing the best they can” and that if something isn’t working, it’s the responsibility of the Care Partner to change their approach and behaviors towards the person with dementia
  • Notice the environment surrounding a person with dementia and make changes as necessary
