Art from the Shadows

Our year 7-10 art class has been producing a range of stunning responses to Shadows of Shoah documenting the stories of survivors of the Holocaust now resident in New Zealand. The etching above is by Year 10 student Alida Hiemstra; the one below is by Year 10 student Kudzaishe Biri. This year celebrated the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps, and students aimed to capture something of the impact the stories and images in the exhibition had on them.

Field of Remembrance

This week we are taking part in Fields of Remembrance in Schoolsa project jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Fields of Remembrance Trust commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli in World War 1.  With the help of senior students, each pupil will construct a cross commemorating one of the 18,200 NZ soldiers who gave their lives in support of our democratic nation.  On Friday they will help make our Field of Remembrance, decorating it with poppies made in art lessons.  Weather permitting, we plan to have a picnic lunch on the field - parents who are able to come will be welcome to join us. At the end of lunchtime there will be a brief talk before we pack up classrooms for the holidays: children whose parents are at school for the picnic can go home early with their parents.

Parent Interviews

Thank you for making this year's Term 1 interviews so productive!  It was great meeting with parents, and we pray that as we build on the information shared we can keep working together to grow your children in wisdom, knowledge, skill and faith.

Important Dates & Times

School closes early on Friday -  at 2:00 pm - for two weeks' holiday.  (We normally close at 2:00 pm at the end of terms 1, 2 and 3; at at mid-day at the end of term 4).  However, it you have joined us for the picnic over lunchtime, you may take your children home as soon as the Field of Remembrance talk is finished (probably about 1:15 pm).

Our first Assembly in the new term will be held Wednesday 29 April instead of on the first Wednesday in May.  With the first week back beginning with ANZAC Day, and with its particular significance this year, we thought it would be good to have an ANZAC Assembly.  We hope to see you there!

Easter

We hope you had a great weekend and were able to spend time with your children, both in remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus, and in enjoying the fantastic weather. This little Youtube clip Lego Easter Story will help children review the lessons of the weekend.
