Faces of The Village

Phoebe enjoying the swings at King George Playing Field.

Phoebe and her family moved to Boxted from central Colchester and love the peacefulness of village life.

Living close to the playing field they regularly visit the play park and enjoy exploring new routes around the village on family cycle rides and walks.

Carriageway Pre Surface Dressing Patching - 07/04/2015 to 17/04/2015, Weather Permitting

Essential carriageway surface improvement works on various roads in the village are due to take place at various times between the above dates on the following roads in the village:

Langham Road
Sky Hall Hill
Cooks Hill
Carter Hill
Queens Head Road
Green Lane
Holly Lane

The works are planned road maintenance as part of our measures designed to return the surface of the road to its optimum status. The road will be surface dressed in the summer of 2015. This will ensure a smoother ride for vehicles and extend the life of road.

Works are subject to prevailing weather conditions.

Access will be maintained for residents. All roads will be open during the day and over the weekend.

There will be no vehicle access or egress through the closed area under excavation and/or construction at these times. A signed diversion route will be in place. Access through the works for emergency vehicles will be maintained.

The road closures will ensure the safety of residents, users and operatives during the excavation, resurfacing, and allow material’s to cure. Please be aware that you may be directed to park elsewhere before being able to access your property. You may also consider leaving your vehicle outside the working area if you wish to use your vehicle during works periods. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Please plan your travel/delivery arrangements to avoid vehicle movements through this site during the working periods. Dates may change, please see site notices for up to date information.

Piggy Path

Nobody seems to know how this footpath (PROW 125_1) got its name.

The Doomsday book entry for Boxted Hall, which is nearby, describes Boxted Great Wood as 'a wood of 200 pigs'  (i.e. it had enough acorns to feed that many) so maybe that was the origin of it?
