Nordplusmusic Newsletter

Welcome to our second edition!
Spring has finally arrived, the weather is warmer and Nordplus activities are blossoming as well. Feeling that there are too many of them to keep track? Nordplusmusic Newsletter comes to the rescue!

Good things come in pairs

This is no copy-paste error - there are indeed four parallel events on the schedule!
Week 15 is a Conference Week in Denmark - Band Teaching Conference in Aalborg and Nordtrad Conference in Esbjerg.
Week 21 is a Meeting Week - Africa meets the Nordics in Helsinki and IRCs meet the ANMA delegates in Stockholm.

Band Teaching Conference

7 - 9 April 2015
Royal Academy of Aarhus/Aalborg

The second session of this development project opened in Aalborg this week.
New possibilities in e-learning, ensemble teaching for kids, composing music together, integrating improvisation - these are just a few examples of this year's presentations. Theoretical approach is in good balance with "hands-on” demonstrations, “dogma-jams”, tips & tricks sharing and “problem-solving” sessions - no risk of PowerPoint coma at the Band Teaching Conference!

Nordtrad Conference 2015

7 - 12 April 2015
Danish National Academy of Music, Esbjerg

Nordtrad Conference has also already taken off.
What do you call a combination of a world-class musician and a top-level scientist? Nordtrad Conference keynote speaker Peter Vuust from Denmark.
What unites Swedish pastoral music, Lithuanian dances, Danish chain dance ballads and Norwegian fiddle tunes? They are the workshop topics of the Nordtrad Conference.

Africa Meets the Nordics

18 - 22 May 2015
University of the Arts Helsinki, Sibelius Academy

African music, dancing and culture in the North? That’s not a contradiction in terms but a new intensive course.
Nordic students have the unique opportunity to work with leading musicians from Mali, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa and Ghana, gain insight into the diverse musical traditions of Africa and develop new musical perspectives, skills and inspiration.
Small and large group workshops, regional presentations – a real African adventure!

We Make an Opera

2 - 7 June 2015
Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre

What will you make during the first week of June? We will make an opera!
During the NordOpera intensive course the students will master their artistic, musicianship and interpretation skills by 'making an opera' through individual lessons with vocal teachers and ensemble rehearsals of various opera fragments under the guidance of international teacher teams consisting of a conductor, a director or interpreter, a dance/movement specialist and a pianist.
The project will end with a gala concert on the stage of the Russian Drama Theatre.
