RTW and Claims Assistance for Employers

By Mark Manokaran (Operations Manager)

As an Occupational Rehabilitation Provider, we are often requested to assist employers who have had little or no exposure to the WorkCover system and its processes, typically small to medium employers.

Navigating through the WorkCover process can be challenging for an employer, particularly in relation to providing appropriate and timely information to the injured worker. Injured workers often comment they have not been informed well enough regarding things such as, “What paperwork do I have to fill out? Whom do I go and see for treatment? What is the certificate of capacity? Who are my key contacts at the workplace?” And of course, questions in relation to pay.

Nabenet is able to provide coaching assistance to employers in these particular circumstances. Topics covered include What is Occupational Rehabilitation? What are your obligations? What is involved in RTW planning? How do you identify suitable duties? How does a workplace injury impact on your worker’s finances? How do you calculate PIAWE? Why should you complete an EFT for?  In order to assist understanding of the WorkCover scheme, WorkSafe have posted helpful YouTube videos for workers and employers regarding the RTW process and the role of Occupational Rehabilitation on their website. Our training packages include a site review and risk analysis prior to the development of your program and each program includes theoretical and practical components.

Professional training can help improve the safety culture within your workforce and give staff the knowledge and techniques to increase production and decrease lost time due to injuries.

Healthy Workforce?

Are you confident you are choosing the right person for the job? Will they be able to perform the inherent requirements of the job?

When employers consider pre-employment or pre-placement  screening of candidates it is often to ensure they are not hiring people who cannot do the job. However screening can have much wider benefits than that. Screening of employees allows a health picture of your workforce to be built, this then allows health and wellbeing programs to be targeted. Screening enables you to be aware of employees limitations and thus employers can avoid putting them in situations where illness or injury is more likely to occur.

When periodic screening is added to the picture, employers are then assessing whether their workforce continues to meet the demands of the job as well as discover if any new health issues have presented. Early detection and intervention on health issues can prevent an injury or situation that results in compensation claims.

For further information about pre-employment screening options please contact the Nabenet Health team on 03 9981 9881 or email workhealth@nabenet.com.au

RETURN TO WORK
TIP OF THE MONTH

Build a register of suitable duties, even breaking it down into particular departments or areas. When you have a workplace injury, you will minimise time lost in developing the best RTW plan that can be sent to the workers' treating practitioner.
