NEWSLETTER 15 - April 2015

Dear friends and colleagues,

EFTA is now a quarter of a century old! From 12^th to 15^th February we celebrated the 25^th Anniversary of EFTA in Leuven, Belgium, in collaboration with BVRGS, the Belgian(-Flemish) Association of Family Therapy (thanks to the Chair Lieven Migerode for a perfect organization!) and the Catholic University of Leuven. Starting with a scientific event on the 12^th and 13^th we learned about the diverse applications of systemic and relational thinking at Belgian Universities in research and practice (below you can download most presentations). EFTA-NFTO held their annual meeting in Leuven and invited chairs and representatives of National Family Therapy Associations from all over Europe. EFTA-TIC organized a workshop for the directors of their member training institutes. On Valentine’s Day the festive afternoon was held in the beautiful building of the Leuven Institute for Ireland. It honored the pioneers of EFTA and told the history of family therapy in different European countries, interspersed with short performances from the Hungarian Psytheatre, reflecting playfully on the contributions from the audience. A “transcontinental conversation” with the current President of AFTA (American Family Therapy Academy), Prof. Gonzalo Bacigalupe was followed by participants’ ideas on the future of EFTA, in so doing concluding the session. During the festive evening a friendly chef took care of us and explained his choreography of the meal before serving it. Last but not least we had lots of fun during the auction, bringing together items from all over Europe – of course all very special and precious! On time for our anniversary I signed a contract with Springer Publishing Company with whom we will launch an EFTA book series (you can find further information below). The first volume is in the works and we hope you can hold it in your hands at the Amsterdam conference in 2016.

The first speakers have accepted our invitation: we are happy to welcome next year Boris Cyrulnik, Jean-Claude Kaufmann, Mony Elkaim, Barry Schwartz, Elisabeth Beck-Gernsheim, Celia Jaes Falicov...

On February 12th and 13th, a scientific event was organized by EFTA in collaboration with the Belgian Flemish Association of Family Therapy (BVRGS; thanks to the Chair: Lieven Migerode) and the Catholic University of Leuven (thanks to Prof. Peter Rober) presenting the divers applications of systemic and relational thinking at Belgian Universities in theory and practice.

EFTA a maintenant un quart de siècle! Du 12 au 15 Février, nous avons célébré le 25ème anniversaire d’EFTA à Louvain, en Belgique, en collaboration avec BVRGS, l’Association Belge (Flamande) de Thérapie Familiale (merci à son président Lieven Migerode pour l’organisation parfaite!) et de l'Université Catholique de Louvain. Les 12 et 13 février, nous avons débuté par un événement scientifique qui a mis en lumière les diverses applications de la pensée systémique et relationnelle dans les universités belges dans la recherche et la pratique (vous pouvez télécharger ci-dessous la plupart des présentations). EFTA-NFTO a tenu sa réunion annuelle à Louvain et a invité les présidents et les représentants des associations nationales de thérapie familiale de toute l'Europe. EFTA-TIC a organisé un atelier pour les directeurs des instituts de formation membres. L'après-midi festive a eu lieu à la Saint Valentin dans le beau bâtiment de l'Institut de Louvain pour l'Irlande. Lors de cet après-midi, un hommage a été rendu aux pionniers d’EFTA et l'histoire de la thérapie familiale dans différents pays européens nous a été présentée, entrecoupée de courtes performances du Psythéâtre hongrois, reflétant de manière ludique les contributions de l'auditoire. Pour conclure la session, une «conversation transcontinentale» a eu lieu avec l'actuel président de l'AFTA (Académie américaine de thérapie familiale), le professeur Gonzalo Bacigalupe, suivie par l’expression des idées des participants sur l'avenir d’EFTA. Au cours de la soirée festive un chef sympathique a pris soin de nous expliquer sa chorégraphie du repas avant de le servir. Enfin, et surtout, nous avons eu beaucoup de plaisir lors de la vente aux enchères, réunissant des objets de toute l'Europe - évidemment très particuliers et précieux! A l’occasion de cet anniversaire, j’ai signé un contrat avec Springer Publishing Company avec qui nous allons lancer une série de livres EFTA (vous trouverez plus d'informations ci-dessous). Le premier volume est en travaux et nous espérons que vous pourrez l’avoir en main lors de la conférence d'Amsterdam en 2016.
