Hello,

Poor enforcement of traffic violations has been a major concern of city residents for years.  The discussion at last month's Downtown Wooster Square  Community Management Team meeting made clear how strong the concerns around this issue are. (Click here to read more about the CMT discussion.)

This week the Mayor's Office announced a press conference on April 15 at 10am  on the steps of City Hall (165 Church St.) to announce that the NHPD will double its motorcycle unit from 6 to 12 officers.  According to the Department, this will allow them to increase their efforts around traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian enforcement.

This is a major announcement and an important step in making New Haven a safer city for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Major turnout will be important to demonstrate how serious and personal these issues are in our neighborhoods and in our Ward.  I encourage you to attend if your schedule permits.

Sincerely, Abby
