GOWANATHON 3:
A Few Snapshots by Erik Almeida

Artists top left, clockwise: Mei Yin Ng, Chinese Ribbon Dance Workshop; Abada Capoiera Demonstration; Jess Grippo, Recovering Ballerina; Mindy Rebman's Tap Class; Tatiana Keegan & Frederic Havez, Michael Hill Blues, B. Shakti; Hip Hop Workshop with Oscar SiFuentes

Many thanks to all the performers, teaching artists, visual artists, writers, curators, donors, volunteers, sponsors, bakers and guests who contributed to STH's “Stairway To Heaven” campaign this past weekend. Special thanks to Threes Brewery, NY Distillery, Mama Maria Kapsalis and Artists & Craftsman Supplies for donating food, drink and art materials. All funds raised at the GOWANATHON will go toward replacing the Gowanus Arts building’s loveable but original funky wooden stairs with a new, up to 2015 building code, stairwell.

AND, if you were not able to make it to any of this weekend’s festivities, you can still contribute to the “Stairway to Heaven” campaign!

PERFORMING & TEACHING ARTISTS WANTED FOR LOCAL PRODUCE PERFORMANCES AND COMMUNITY GARDEN EVENTS

STH is now accepting proposals from Brooklyn-based performance and teaching artists of all genres for outdoor, participatory, family friendly arts workshops and site specific performances to be presented in several of Park Slope’s most luscious community gardens throughout the month of June 2015.

On Saturday June 6, STH will once again close off Union Street and pitch a big top tent out in the street to kick off LOCAL PRODUCE’s month of  free, outdoor music, theater and dance events.  The day will feature a smorgasbord of workshops, youth performances, and an adult professional dance, music and theater showcase in addition to other surprises.

ATTENTION PERFORMING ARTISTS:  we are particularly seeking professional choreographers musicians, theater and interdisciplinary artists to be part of the June 6 festivities as well as those interested in creating a site specific piece for one of the local gardens.  A modest honorarium will be paid to all professional artists.

Please send spoke@spokethehub.org a one page proposal of what you would like to create/present for:

a) the Garden of Union
b) Greenspace @ President Street
c) Washington Park in front of the Old Stone House on 3rd Street
d) a local green space of your choice

Please  also include a one page bio or resume of professional highlights and, if appropriate, an unedited, representative audio or video sample of your work.

TALENTED BROOKLYN 2015 GALA:
BENEFITING BROOKLYN COMMUNITY HOUSING & SERVICES (BCHS)

STH has been a long-time partner and supporter of BCHS, a remarkable organization committed to ending homelessness in Brooklyn. Each year, BCHS provides safe and clean supportive housing for more than 1,000 formerly homeless women, children and men. They help them learn how to live productively and independently, with dignity and hope.

Their programs provide short-term, transitional and permanent housing, homelessness prevention, personalized case management, mental health care, on-site nursing, vocational training, substance abuse counseling, recreational activities and other vital services.

STH is particularly pleased that BCHS will be honoring BCHS’ long time board member Ben Baxt at their upcoming gala on Wednesday April 29 at the Green Building on Union Street .  Ben and his wife Susan have also been steadfast Spoke the Hub supporters for many years and integral members of our team which traveled to Haiti to perform volunteer work at the Consolation Center, a girls school and orphanage, in the south of Haiti a few years back.  As architects, both Ben and Susan have also served as advisors to Spoke the Hub on our various renovation and construction projects.

Please join Gail Flanery, Tom Potter, Venice James and Elise Long in supporting this amazing humanitarian organization and come honor STH’s good friend, Ben Baxt, on April 29th with us! More infomation
