To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate — the Vatican declaration which redefined Christian-Jewish relations, CCJ will be holding a number of events in May:

Nostra Aetate: More Sentiment Than Substance?
Date: Sunday 10th May 2015
Time: 8.00pm
Venue: JW3, 341-351 Finchley Road, London, NW3 6ET.
The 1965 Vatican document Nostra Aetate was revolutionary, opposing anti-Judaism and promoting interfaith relations. An expert panel discusses what effect, if any, it has had on Jewish/Christian relations, and the outlook for the future.
The panel is chaired by Dr Edward Kessler MBE, Founder and Executive Director of the Woolf Institute, Cambridge, with an MBE for services to interfaith relations, and features:
- Rabbi David Rosen CBE, international authority on Vatican/Israel relations and recipient of both a CBE and a Papal Knighthood.
- Archbishop Kevin McDonald, Chair of the Bishops' Conference Committee for Other Faiths and the UK voice on Catholic-Jewish Relations.

In Our Time: Taking Stock of Christian-Jewish Relations after Nostra Aetate

Expert panels discuss two specific, complimentary areas in which the Vatican document Nostra Aetate has had profound effect on Jewish-Christian relations: theology and dialogue.
The first panel on theology, chaired by Council of Christians and Jews director Dr Jane Clements, features:
- Rabbi David Rosen CBE, international authority on Vatican/Israel relations and recipient of a Papal Knighthood for his contribution to Jewish-Catholic reconciliation
- Archbishop Kevin McDonald, Catholic Emeritus Archbishop of Southwark and Chair of the Bishops' Conference Committee for Other Faiths and the UK voice on Catholic-Jewish Relations
- Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence, Senior Rabbi at Finchley Kinloss United Synagogue and was a regular speaker at the annual CCJ and CCM inter-meetings in Australia and New Zealand
- Canon Dr Andrew Wingate OBE, Founding Director of St. Philips Centre, Leicester and chaplain to the Queen
The second panel on the reality of the dialogue on the ground, chaired by Council of Christians and Jews Programme Manager Dr Steve Innes, features:
- Rabbi Shoshana Boyd Gelfand, Director of JHub
- Sister Margaret Shepherd nds, Director of Sion Centre for Dialogue and Encounter, Secretary to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales Committee for Catholic-Jewish Relations
- Rabbi David Mason, Rabbi of Muswell Hill Synagogue and interfaith practitioner
- Professor Michael Barnes SJ, Dean of Research Students, Professor of Theology and co-founder of the Centre for Interreligious Dialogue at Heythrop College

How should Jews engage with other faiths?

This lecture will tackle the different attitudes towards Christianity over the ages and explore changes in Jewish approaches in the light of transformations within the Christian world, with particular focus on the 1965 Vatican document Nostra Aetate. Above all, it will look at the reasons for advocating Jewish engagement with other faith communities. Keynote address from Rabbi David Rosen CBE.

'Finding Common Ground' Study Day

This Sheffield branch Study Day will take as its starting point the 50th Anniversary of the Nostra Aetate. The cost for the day is £25, including lunch and all refreshments.
Key note speakers include, The Most Reverend Kevin McDonald, Chair of the Bishop’s Conference Committee for Other Faiths and of the Committee for Catholic-Jewish Relations, and Rabbi Jonathan Golomb, Chairman of the Rabbinical Council of the Provinces and Rabbi of the Sheffield Jewish Congregation.
