Dearest Scotland Success

Thanks to the generosity of over 200 backers and social media followers, there were a few fist pumps in the studio as Dearest Scotland's Kickstarter campaign reached its £10K funding target with a day to spare!
A book of letters written to the future of Scotland will now become a beautiful reality. If you fancy getting published, submit your letter by March 31st.

Raising Finance and Funding

Thrive: Growth for Business hosted a roundtable discussion focused on the hot topic of raising funds and finance. Snook, alongside Oxfam, Institute of Fundraising, DSL Business Finance and Coffee & Craic were key contributors.
We shared our perception of crowd funding and our perspective on the process as a brand builder and not a sustainable model of investment of capital raising.

Carr Gomm Futures
Carr Gomm Futures

Our work with Carr Gomm, a care organisation based in Edinburgh, came to a close after a 9-month journey together. We created a research and development lab – Carr Gomm Futures – to define and implement strategies that embed design thinking within their organisation.

This month, our project team presented the results to the CEO, Lucy Wren and the senior team at Carr Gomm to fantastic reception. We will shortly release a case study detailing our process and the final outcomes; from a new one page profile to a re-developed brand.

Circular by Design

Last week, our designer, Charlotte, joined the Circular by Design Chiasma hosted by Design in Action and Zero Waste Scotland. A Chiasma is an event which brings together designers and thinkers to generate new ideas to solve a wicked problem.

Charlotte collaborated on ideas around the topic of circular economy as well as learning more about the textile economy in Scotland. You can catch up on what happened here.

Culture Shift Athens
Technology Meets Art in Athens

The British Council in Greece, in partnership with Snook and Google, and in collaboration with Future Library, hosted the first Culture Shift Lab in Athens!
The cultural, business and technology sectors came together to develop innovative solutions that support the growth of the cultural sector. Check out our Storify and find out about the winners of a 3 day residency at YouTube in London!

Creating Digital Tools for Mental Wellbeing and Employment Support

Snook, in partnership with The Point People, were commissioned by the Department of Health, Department of Work and Pensions and worked closely with Government Digital Services to explore how digital tools might support people to maintain mental wellbeing throughout their employment journey.
Snook and The Point People undertook extensive research and designed early digital services, which received positive feedback. The reports from the Discovery and Pre Alpha phases of the work can be found here.

See Me Labs

See Me Innovation Labs

We recently worked with See Me on a two-day Innovation Lab supporting individuals to develop innovative ideas to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination.
A number of promising ideas will be developed into project briefs and will be put out to open tender through the See Me Community Innovation Fund. See the highlights from the Innovation Lab here.

Anatomy of Design #006

Our director, Sarah, was asked to deliver a presentation at the talk series, Anatomy of Design in Belfast, hosted by the Northern Ireland Design Alliance and her old university friend, Sarah Jones.
During her talk, she shared our design principles: open design, designing platforms for others to create on, providing tools that build confidence, designing for systems and facilitating knowledge. Oh, she also saw the biggest screen ever in Ulster Hall.

Social Innovation

Our friends over at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) have launched a blog and are running a suite of interesting events, research and development within the field of Social Innovation. Keep an eye on their updates and interesting student work.

Valuing Design

The report identifies and maps the design impact and value after a 6-month project sponsored by the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council. It helps in understanding the value in a design-led approach, focused on the public and third sectors. The Matter – a service aimed at developing skills to improve employability designed and developed by Snook – is featured on Page 22.

A Jump into the Unknown

Normally we cut the ribbon on something that's built and ready to let the customers and visitors in – but this month, we are cutting the ribbon and jumping into the unknown as we start to redesign our website. We'll be doing this through our tried-and-tested method of prototyping and developing it live! It is slightly nerve-wracking to put ourselves out there but we hope this will give you a chance to get to know us better. We're ready for the challenge! Follow our journey and get involved via #OpenSnook.

1, 2, 3 ... Jump!
