President's Note

Dear TACL Family,

Happy Spring!

In January, our Midterm Conference brought the TACL Family together in LA where we kicked off our first TACL 30th Anniversary celebration of the year.  In February, we celebrated the Lunar New Year across the country, connecting our celebrations over social media with #taplny15.  In March, our “MM2015” games is stirring up some friendly competition across all chapters and programs.  Did you participate in some or all of our FUN!??

Remember to check the TACL FB Group periodically for updates and TACL announcements.  We are anticipating some cool events to happen in the next quarter, so stay tuned!!

Best,

Jacqui Wu
TACL National President

Lunar New Year

All the TAPs celebrated Lunar New Year this year - there were banquets, house parties, cozy dinners and much more. Check out how everyone celebrated by searching #taplny15 on Facebook and Instagram.

Fresh Off the Boat

Atlanta, Boston, New York, Seattle and San Diego all hosted viewing events for ABC’s hit sitcom Fresh Off the Boat; other TAPs had unofficial gatherings; and TACL hosted a preview at our Midterm Convention. Don’t forget to tune in on Tuesdays to the hilarious life of the Taiwanese American Huangs on ABC and follow @taclorg on Twitter as we live tweet.

Cathy Erway, Food of Taiwan Cookbook

Be on the lookout for upcoming events at all the TAPs surrounding this first Taiwanese cookbook ever published by a major U.S. publisher. Or if you just want to buy it now, here is the Amazon Smile link.

Asian American Heritage Month

Stay tuned for events in May for Asian American Heritage Month. How will all the TAPs celebrate our heritage? Look for hashtags to pop up in our TACL FB Group.

Bike There 2015

TAP-DC is spearheading “Bike There 2015”, a Taiwan heritage bike expedition, and wants YOU to join them. If you are an avid biker and want to explore the mountains and beaches of the beautiful island of Taiwan with fellow Taiwanese Americans, fill out TAP-DC’s survey to stay informed about the trip (which should be towards the end of 2015). Put on your explorer caps and bike on!

Annual Ski and Snowboard Extravaganza

When sister chapters join forces, we want to spotlight their collaboration.  In March, TAP-NY and TAP-Boston co-organized a snowboarding/ski extravaganza that brought out around 80 members to Mount Killington in Vermont. Click here for our interview with this year’s FUN-tastic planners, Jessica Chen (TAP-NY Health & Wellness Chair) and Diana Chiang (TAP-Boston Social/Cultural Co-Chair).

Political Internship Program

Our Summer 2015 TACL Political Internship has officially started with 23 applicants from all across the country - thanks to referrals from PIP/TACL alumni, TAPs and ITASA.  The team is now reaching out to the offices of elected officials to secure placements for the interns and to new partners for our fundraising efforts.

Interested in helping out? If you are in the DC area and want to volunteer your time for the program, please email us at intern@tacl.org.  If would like to donate and support the program, please click here to donate and learn more about the program.  For a small suggested donation of $10 a month (or more!) you will be building a sustainable program that will be running for years to come.

Global Leadership Organization

GLO held its 12th Leadership Conference at UC Berkeley in February and will be heading to UT Austin in April. Click here to register and find more information about the program.

LYF Camp

Date: June 22 to 27
Location: Walker Creek Ranch, Petaluma, CA

Leading Youth Forward, or LYF Camp, is held within the greater San Francisco Bay Area for kids in grades 4-12. We prime our campers for their futures through interactive leadership workshops and eye-opening, exploratory clinics ranging from science, performing arts, to Taiwanese culture. Learn more about our summer camp and programming here: lyf.tacl.org.

We are also still looking for camp counselors! If interested, please read over the LYF 2015 Introduction to Camp for more information. Apply soon!

LID Camp

Date: July 28 to August 2
Location: Laurel Pines Camp, Angelus Oaks, CA

Running from July 28-August 2 at Laurel Pines Camp in sunny Southern California, LID Camp is back and ready to roll! With a full day extension (5 nights, 6 days), that means more time to be immersed in leadership/development workshops and to learn more about Taiwanese culture. This year's activities also include paintball, archery, hiking, stargazing, bonfires, and much more.

Want to get involved? Apply to be a counselor on our website and refer friends and family who could be potential campers or counselors to lidcamp.org!

Meet TAP-Atlanta

In January, TAP-Atlanta was voted in by their peer TAPs and is now an official TAP Chapter.  Congratulations and welcome to our newest family member!  TACL conducted a short interview with Wellington Tzou, TAP-Atlanta’s Founding President to learn a little more about him and TAP-Atlanta.  Click here to read what we discovered.
