WINGS NEEDED (a.s.a.p.) FOR THE PROPELLER DANCE COMPANY
Propeller Dance is an integrated dance company in Ottawa. Dancers in wheelchairs or with many other physical challenges weave together beautiful, creative choreographies with able bodied dancers.
Propellers also run dance classes throughout the city for all ages in schools and community centers.
Randala, a local belly dance teacher, costume designer, and former member of the Enan Egyptian Folkloric Troupe, has been costuming and helping the Propeller performing group for several years as they develop pieces to share in schools and performances in Ottawa and on tour.
Recently, a retired belly dance teacher from Newfoundland donated seven pairs of Isis Wings to the Propellers.
These have been scooped up enthusiastically by the young adult class in Vanier.
This class is held in the same room that the Enan Egyptian Folkloric Troupe first held its practices and performance almost 4 decades ago!
There are still 8 students and teachers who need wings as they develop a choreography for their part in the Propeller’s May 8 performance at the GCTC.
Are there any Isis Wings
that the Ottawa Belly Dance Community of Goddesses
would have to donate or or sell to the Propellers?
If so, PLEASE contact Randi “Randala” Cherry at (613) 730-0606 or ra@magma.ca
as soon as possible.

Shimmy Mob - DEADLINE TO REGISTER: April 1
Join us and help Ottawa contribute to breaking a world record with Shimmy Mob!
http://www.shimmymob.com/events/city/?eventid=7&cityid=342
This dance event brings the joy of dance to the community, promotes awareness of domestic abuse, and raises resources for abused women’s and children’s shelters in local areas.
This year Shimmy Mob hits the streets in Ottawa for the first time on Saturday May 9th, 2015 and is raising funds in support of Harmony House (http://www.harmonyhousews.com/)
Shimmy Mob broke the world record last year. With the support and participation of the Ottawa-Gatineau dance community, we aim to do it again this year.
We are seeking dancers of all ages and levels to participate in this unique worldwide event and would be honored to have you and your dancers join us.
To qualify, all dancers:
– must be 12 years of age or older (we can make exceptions for younger dancers who have parental permission!);
– must be able to learn basic belly dance choreography.
The choreography tutorials will be available privately online to all registered dancers. In addition, there will be live practices at participating locations (dates and locations to be announced – stay tuned!).
If you are a teacher/studio, this event provides a unique opportunity to promote your school/classes when you sponsor the live choreography practice session. Also, by being a part of Shimmy Mob, you and/or your studio will receive a free listing and sponsor link on our website for 1 full year.
Each registered dancer will also receive the official 2015 Shimmy Mob t-shirt.
Join us! Make history with us! See the details at http://www.shimmymob.com. Upon registration, you’ll receive access to the choreography.
We look forward to shimmying with you!
