Tour of Britain comes to Eden with a spectacular sporting finish!

Eden is delighted to welcome the 2015 Friends Life Tour of Britain on Thursday 10 September.

Cumbria will host two stages of the Friends Life Tour of Britain this September, as British Cycling's premier road cycling event comes to the county on two separate days for the first time ever. The Friends Life Tour of Britain attracts the world's top cyclists, including Olympic and World Champions and Tour de France stage winners.

Stage Five of the Tour of Britain arrives in Eden on Thursday 10 September, starting from Prudhoe in Northumberland and follows Hadrian's Wall to Brampton before heading down the Eden Valley and then into the Lake District National Park, running alongside Ullswater. After racing through Penrith, the stage will head to Melmerby at the foot of the eight-kilometre climb to Hartside Pass.

At 575m, the summit finish at Hartside Fell in Eden is almost 100m higher this year than it was in last year's race, which finished on the Tumble in South Wales.  Hartside Fell will be the only summit finish of the 2015 Friends Life Tour of Britain, and the first to be held in Cumbria, making Eden the place to come and watch the Tour!

Why not come up and stay in Eden to watch both Cumbria stages of the Tour of Britain? Make a week of it, bring your bike and explore all that Eden has to offer. It's a great place for all types of cycling with its fantastic network of quiet lanes and gently rolling hills. The Pennine Hills and eastern Lakeland fells are challenging enough to test even the hardiest road cyclist or mountain biker. Combined these features make Eden a paradise for bikes. Take a look at our cycling section for lots of useful cycling information including routes to try.

The Tour of Britain is sure to inspire you to get cycling if you don't already and Eden has a great range of cyclist-friendly places to stay, bike hire and great local food to enjoy too.

Make sure you book early!
