WHERE'S JOANNA? Spring Edition

After a slow winter, when everything came to a frozen standstill, it is now time for the spring thaw. And what a thaw it is!

I will be presenting four times over a two week period in April in both Rutland and Addison Counties, and the month of May will find me at RRMC and online. (A May workshop is also in the works for Chittenden County.)

Wherever I turn up this spring, I'd love to meet and share the gift of expressive writing with you. Below are some opportunities to do just that.

April 7, 9, 14, 16: Three Writers, Four Nights, CSC Herrick Auditorium, 7-8pm; FREE. As part of a series of talks with Author Burnham Holmes and Poet Joyce Thomas, I will be presenting "Expressive Writing: Getting to Your Truth" on Thursday, April 9 with a panel discussion on Thursday, April 16.

Just Announced! Saturday, April 18: League of Vermont Writers Spring Conference,  Franklin Conference Center, Rutland, VT. I will be presenting, "Find your Story, Find your Voice: Writing Beyond the Script." Visit http://leagueofvermontwriters.org/ for registration info.

If you are a Middlebury College student, or know someone who is, this one's for you: Tuesday, April 21, 7:30PM. I will be presenting "How journaling/expressive writing can enhance well-being, lower stress, and increase self-confidence" as part of their resilience programming.

May 18 - June 29: Changing the World with Words: Transformative Language Arts (TLA) Foundations (online). I will be co-teaching with poet, writer, and TLA founder Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg. This class is also required as part of the TLA Foundations Certification. Details and registration info here.

Thursday, May 21; 6-7:30: Lower Your Stress, The Write Way Rutland Regional Medical Center, Leahy Community Health Education Center: FREE. Register here.

Looking ahead to summer: Camp Time!

I am very excited to teach a class I am calling "The Magic Pen: Personal Writing to Find Your Voice" for tween/teen girls at Chaffee Art Center in Rutland on July 14-16. I will also present a version of it at Rosie's Girls Rutland sometime during their camp weeks, July 20-31. Register your daughters now!

On the blog...

To bring about a paradigm shift in the culture that will change assumptions and attitudes, a critical number of us have to tell the stories of our personal revelations and transformations.
-- Jean Shinoda Bolen

I haven't posted about my path to publication in a while because, well, last fall the path suddenly became a rut. I didn't have the time or emotional ability to navigate that bumpy road at that time. But, as these things do, it hasn't stopped nagging at me. Lately that voice has once again become too loud to ignore... [read more].

In print!

The book, "Transformative Language Arts in Action," in which I have a small essay, is now available here.

And in
"Expressive Writing: Classroom and Community," Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg discusses and quotes from my graduate work.

And out now! My debut in the spring issue of Rutland Magazine! Look for my historical piece titled, "The House on Garden Street."
