Social Media Is For Everyone

Are you shying away from social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube because you think they are only for the younger generations?  You might be surprised to learn that 50+ adults are the fastest growing group of social media users.  Here are the top reasons adults of all ages should learn about social media.
  1. Stay Close With Your Family and Friends - Seniors can use Facebook to keep in touch with kids, grandkids, and sometimes even great grandkids. Some baby boomers are finding their old college roommates, best friends from “the block” and elementary school crushes. Even if you don’t care as much about the photos of last night’s dinner that come up from time to time, you probably will like seeing the many images of your family living life day to day.
  2. Coupons & Other Discounts!  Who doesn’t like to save money?  Many businesses provide coupons and advertise special sales on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
  3. Community Connection - Through social media you can share your life experience with others. Blog about what life was like when you were growing up or how you feel about how things have changed. Network online with others who share your beliefs in a particular cause or political agenda or offer advice to younger people. And many government agencies, such as Fire and Police, use Twitter and Facebook for timely announcements.
  4. Always be Learning. No matter how many years you live, there’s always more to learn. People use social media to share articles and other resources that they find valuable. Twitter and Facebook are both commonly used for sharing news articles or interesting stories.

Come join us on Social Media - our next Social Media classes will be:

  • Thursday April 9 & 16 from 10am-12noon  at Terra Linda Rec Center, (415) 485-3344
  • Tuesday April 21 & 28 from 10am-12noon at Mill Valley Rec Center (415) 383-1370

Learn With Friends

Can't make it to one of our group classes? You can organize one of your own. Just get a few friends together and Technology4Life will come to you. Like a Technology Tupperware Party! All of our classes are available in the "Party" format. Call us at (415) 302-4070 and we can help plan your party!

New iPad/iPhone Class: World of Apps

There are applications (or Apps) for everything! You can use them to talk with (and see) your friends and family, find new restaurants, play games with people around the world, shop for the best deals, get books from the library, watch the latest movies and TV shows, control your household appliances (or even hearing aids) and more!

To help you learn about the wide world of applications, we have created a new class: iPad/iPhone III: World of Apps.  In this class, we teach you how to go beyond the built-in apps. You will learn how to find and research good apps to download them to your iPhone or iPad. We explain how to manage your apps, quickly move between them, organize and remove unwanted apps.

Join us at one of our iPad/Iphone III: World of Apps classes, offered in April:

  • April 15 & 22, 10am-12noon, Margaret Todd Senior Center in Novato. (415) 899-8290
  • April 23 & 30, 10am-12noon, Pickleweed (Al Boro) Community Center, San Rafael. (415) 485-3077
If you are just getting started with your Smart Phone or Tablet, then you might prefer to start with our iPad/iPhone I: Basics class. This classes teaches you how to use the controls on your device, manage battery life, backup to cloud, and use built-in apps such as Phone, Message, and Mail. This class is offered in April on:
  • 4/21 & 28, 6pm-8pm at Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo, (415) 945-3730
Our ipad/Iphone II: Essential Applications class goes into depth on how to use the built-in applications for Text Message, Facetime, Email, Calendar and more!  This class will be offered in May.
  • 5/7 & 14, 6pm-8pm at Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo, (415) 945-3730.
