1.  Meeting Agenda

Our speaker this week is Bruce DeLay from Heartland Church in Tulsa.  Last year Bruce was recognized by Bott Radio Network and Fairview Baptist Church as their “Patriot Pastor of the Year” for his grass roots activism and leadership.  Bruce hosts a program which he refers to as “religiously incorrect Christian radio.”  His presentation on Wednesday is “US/Mexican Border Update:  It Ain't a Pretty Picture.”

2.  Superman for Lies, Injustice, and the Communist Way?

If I own a car washing business, is the Governor going to force me to wash all the HUMV’s at the local armory?  Is the town council going to force me to wash the fire trucks, or worse, the trash trucks?  If I choose not to soil myself with spoiled milk, isn’t that my choice as a free human being?  It seems to me that religion has nothing to do with it.  Forcing me to wash a vehicle for any reason, whether because it is a government vehicle or because the owner has different sexual desires, is not tolerance; it is fascism!  It is slavery!  It is tyranny!

Consider this:  If we had more judges across the land willing to protect natural rights and private property, they would simply throw out cases of intolerance against religion for lack of merit and standing.  Unfortunately, so few people understand true tolerance and freedom that in Oklahoma we had to pass the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 2000 to protect our citizens against the intolerance of agitators like Apple CEO Tim Cook or like the intolerant Christian-haters who shut down the pizzeria in Indiana.

The words tolerance and tyranny are almost exact opposites, yet to read the news the last few days you would think we had entered Bizarro World where even Superman stands for lies, injustice, and the Communist way.  It is a world in which every individual has a moral right to every other individual’s property.  We see it in eminent domain, we see it in the income tax, and now we see it in the fascist-like forcing of private companies to provide goods or services to others.  Other states like Indiana would do well to follow our example from fifteen years ago in protecting people’s rights to make their own decisions about their own lives and businesses and property.

3.  The State Bullies Companies with Socialism

Representative Hall has proposed HB1561, the “Quality Workforce Act,” which would give tax money to companies who want to invest in continuing education for their employees.  Like the Quality Jobs Act before it, this is another socialist giveaway scheme that needs to be defeated before it has a chance to entice companies to the pig sty.  What follows is an example of the consequences of such corporate welfare.

Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores Inc. just bellied up to the trough in the Marble Pork Pen at 23rd and Lincoln.  Thanks to the Quality Jobs Act, they can pig-out on up to $13.6 million worth of slops funded by the taxpayer.  In recent years Love’s has been successful enough to establish new stores, expand their services, and build a new corporate headquarters; yet they somehow need public help to hire new people?

“Quality Jobs” and “Quality Workforce” and “Economic Development” all sound wonderful, but what is going on here?  Love’s is receiving public assistance not only from us as individuals, but also from their competitors who pay corporate income taxes.  It is like the state is the bully on the playground.  Grabbing Pilot, OnCue, and Shell, the state bully shouts at each one, “Why are you hitting yourself?  Stop hitting yourself!” as he forces them to punch themselves in the face.  The Quality Jobs Act is legally forcing companies to stab themselves in the back and shoot themselves in the foot by giving money and a competitive edge to their rivals.

The insanity continues!  Now if the other companies want to stay competitive, they must also wallow at the trough alongside Love’s, begging for enough tax-payer slops to keep up with the unfair advantage gained by Love’s.

Freedom and private ownership means companies succeed or fail on their own, not because the state fascists and central planners steal from one group and give to another, picking the winners and losers.  The socialist Quality Jobs Act corrupts and punishes good Oklahoma companies.  It is immoral and improper and must be abolished.  Let’s not repeat the same mistake with a Quality Workforce Act.

4.  Everyone Should Get to Play Politics

Sometimes the Oklahoma Gazette gets it right.  Kudos to them for reporting on HB 2181 which will give Oklahoma citizens more access to the political process.  Right now many Oklahomans have no relevant way to participate in the process, whether it be in the primary season or the general election, since the Republican and Democratic Parties control elections in the state.  Libertarians, Greenies, and Communists have nowhere to go to discuss or advocate for their ideas in the process.  By reducing the number of signatures required to put a new party on the ballot, HB2181 is bringing more freedom and a better chance for representation of everyone’s views.  We heartily applaud this measure, since public policy should be about debating all the ideas to see which ones are right, not being forced to go along with what one of the two major parties has ordained.
