Preliminary Programme Dataharvest #EIJC15 online

The preliminary programme for Journalismfund.eu’s Dataharvest European Investigative Journalism Conference 2015 is online. Check out what ‘s already on offer this year. Many more sessions will be added as they are confirmed.

The Dataharvest Conference brings together top-notch investigative journalists, coders, programmers and scholars from all over Europe to exchange ideas and skills. The conference will take place on Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday morning 10 May 2015.

There are several tracks to choose sessions from in the programme:

  • Cross-border
  • Data
  • Wobbing
  • Entrepreneurial journalism
  • and more

There will be a heavy focus this year on ICIJ’s cross-border investigations #LuxLeaks and #SwissLeaks. The keynote will be given by ICIJ deputy director Marina Walker, who will talk about why cross-border journalism matters. Follow-up sessions will be held with ICIJ’s data editor Mar Cabra and Belgian members Alain Lallemand, Kristof Clerix and Lars Bové, among others.

Wobbing will play a big role, too. Staff members of the EU Ombudsman office will be present to discuss how to file a well-crafted complaint with the Ombudslady. There are also some workshops on how to wob the Commission and the Council.

In the data journalism track a lot of attention goes to databases and open platforms that are or can be interesting tools for journalists to work with. For example: EU Integrity Watch is a user-friendly interactive database that provides an overview of the activities and incomes of members of the European Parliament. It allows journalists and the wider public to monitor their elected representatives for potential conflicts of interest. Another example: the project EU Community builds platforms based on the EU's open data sources and expert input via crowdsourcing, to analyse and harvest the abundance of information on EU affairs. Read more
