Holy Week at VBC

Join Us for Worship

We invite you to join us this week as we gather together to remember the last week of Jesus' life.

Thursday, April 2, 7:30 p.m.
Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service

We will gather in the Worship Room to celebrate the Lordís Supper and worship together in our annual Tenebrae service. Tenebrae, Latin for ìshadows,î is one of the oldest traditions of the church for Holy Week, dating back to the eighth century. It presents the Passion of our Lord in dramatic form with the gradual extinguishing of candles marking the fading faithfulness of the disciples and the people who cheered Jesus into Jerusalem.

Friday, April 3, 2:30 p.m.
Ecumenical Good Friday Service

We will join the congregation of Our Lady of Good Counsel as well as other local congregations to walk the Stations of the Cross. This representation of the Passion of Christ has been celebrated by Christians for centuries, and is a way to journey with Christ through those last days. This service will be held at OLGC, 8601 Wolftrap Road in Vienna.

Sunday, April 5, 11 a.m.
Resurrection Day Celebration

Please join us as we celebrate Christís resurrection through word, prayer, and song. We will have a special musical prelude by our Chancel Choir, with guest musicians from George Mason University, as well as a celebration of communion. During the service, children will be invited to Childrenís Worship, where they will have an egg hunt and a telling of the Resurrection story.

Online Services at VBC

Live Streaming of Worship Services

We are glad to have many of our Worship Services streamed live as well as being available to view during the week after the service is finished. Visit www.vbc-va.org/live/ to view the most recent service. If you wish to volunteer for this new ministry, please contact Mike Pauley (mdpauley@gmail.com) or CJ in the office.

Online Giving

Did you know that you can make your gifts to Vienna Baptist Church online? You can make a one time gift, or set up recurring payments to come directly from your debit or credit card, or as an automatic check payment from your checking account.

Online giving services are provided by our partner, ACSTechnologies. This secure, online system provides an easy, convenient way to make your pledge contributions or other donations to Vienna Baptist Church. Online giving also allows for consistency, allowing you to make your weekly, monthly, or other contributions from anywhere. You can access the online giving portal at
www.vbc-va.org/online-giving/

AccessACS Church Information System

The AccessACS Church Information System allows church members to access church information from your computer, without waiting for directories to be updated or statements to be sent to you! All you need is to sign up with your email address that is on file with the church, and you will be able to view directories, update your personal information, register for church events, view your giving history, and manage your online giving, all from one place. The AccessACS login link appears at the bottom of the VBC Website.

With the AccessACS System, a smartphone app will be available soon to access church information from your iPhone or Android device. If you have any questions or problems with the system, please contact CJ in the church office. Although we cannot provide technical support in the office, we can answer basic questions about accessing the system.

Volunteers Needed

VBC Office Seeks Additional Help

As we enter the spring, the VBC office is seeking to add to its list of current volunteers. We are seeking people who would be available primarily in the mornings to assist with phones, filing, organization, and other tasks. Often, you would also be able to work on your own church volunteer tasks, or other small work that you would be able to accomplish in the office while helping provide additional coverage in the office for our staff. If you are interested in helping in the office, or would like more information, please contact CJ Redden-Liotta in the office.

Stop Hunger Now

Packaging Day Coming on April 18

Please sign up for the meal packaging event! There are many flexible timeslots and roles on Saturday, April 18th from 9 until 6:30. Volunteers are needed to reach the local goal of filling 250,000 meals during this event.  Visit www.novastophungernow.org to sign up or for more information.

Our Daily Bread

Accomplishments and Updates

For over 25 years Vienna Baptist Church has participated in the Our Daily Bread Ministry (ODB). Many people in VBC have generously given of their time and resources to the ministry, which provides food to families in need throughout the year. VBC participates mainly by sorting the food delivered by the National Association of Letter Carriers from their annual food drive; delivering several bags of food to our neighbors three Sundays a year, and donating food directly to other non-profit organizations. We had much to celebrate in 2014!

Church volunteers, a VBCC parent and the outstanding Marshall High School Men's Soccer Team, led by Coach Justin Epperson, sorted over 7,000 pounds of food on May 10, 2014. Many thanks to letter carriers Steve Mathews, Tom Cleer, Ross Berga, Mike Benjamin, and Dalor Mannonov for delivering this food after a full day’s work. VBC then delivered over 3,869 pounds of food directly to Fairfax County families identified by the ODB program. We also gave 2,922 pounds of food to Food for Others, the non-profit which distributes directly to the unemployed and low income families. Our church family provided thirteen bins, and several bags of food, to our mission partner FACETS, which assists the homeless.

We have the joy of continuing this ministry in 2015. VBC members can contribute by sorting the food delivered by the Letter Carriers on May 9, 2015. Many volunteers are needed to help sort the large quantity of food (vegetables, meats, soup, etc.) when it comes in from the letter carriers. We meet in the foyer at VBC around 4:00 p.m. and work until the last delivery from the Post Office. The only skills necessary are a willing heart and hands.

We can also help by packing food bags and delivering the food to the ODB families on June 7, July 19, and August 30, 2015. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Dorcus, Emily Miller or Susan Hall. May you be blessed as you bless your neighbors.
