2015 Mitchell Award

The award was established more than 20 years ago by Dr. Virgil Mitchell and his wife Mary to encourage excellence in ministry, to enhance the importance of pastoral ministry, to express gratitude for Mitchell’s own ministerial education received at SWU, and to exalt Jesus Christ.
Bench Dedication
Three benches that are a part of the Sheriff National Guard Memorial Flag Plaza will be dedicated on Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. University Chaplain Ken Dill has prepared a fitting program and litany for the dedication. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend this special time on campus. Though the program will be short, it will be especially meaningful to the donors and to the continued use by the campus community. If your schedule permits, please plan to attend.

Paula Preusz Lemons (’94) received the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Excellence in Teaching Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. “I'm grateful to SWU for the contribution the institution made to my education and my life, but most of all I'm thankful to God and to have the chance to serve Him as a professor,†Lemons said. Lemons is associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at UGA.

Business Academy Series at N. Augusta
The next in the Business Academy Series will deal with the Fair Labor Standards Act, exempt vs non-exempt, contractor vs. employee, overtime vs comp time, etc. This free program will take place at 9:30 a.m. April 15 at SWU's North Augusta learning center, 802 E. Dr. Joe Dongell, Professor of Biblical Studies and Director of Greek Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, will be the guest speaker for the Phaup Holiness Emphasis Series April 6-8 at SWU's Central campus. Dongell is professor of Biblical studies and director of Greek studies at Asbury Theological Seminary,
He will speak at chapel services at 10 a.m. April 6 and 8 and at an evening service at 7:30 p.m. April 6. The chapel services will be in the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Auditorium.
