Event news from the ERC
"State of Small Business Britain" Conference 2015
The ERC’s second annual ‘State of Small Business Britain’ conference will take place at The Think Tank in Birmingham on 16th June.
We are delighted to announce that we will be welcoming Baroness Wheatcroft, Sherry Coutu, author of The Scale-up Report and Sergio Arzeni, Director of the OECD’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, SME’s and Local Development to the stage.
If you’re interested in the landscape of growth across the UK then we will be revealing brand new research looking at how UK SMEs have recovered from the Great Recession in different parts of the UK. We will also be looking at the links between ambition, mobility and growth and whether entrepreneurship actually makes you rich.
Last year, ERC identified a group of 1200 extraordinary firms who were micro businesses in 1998 and now account for almost 100,000 jobs.
Come to Birmingham and hear our first findings from talking directly with these businesses – what were the critical incidents that account for their extraordinary growth?

Innovation & Local Growth Workshop
ERC presents a workshop on 'Innovation and local growth' aimed at providing new insights into the geography of innovation across the UK, the strengths and weaknesses of local innovation eco-systems and support mechanisms, and a comparison of local innovation dynamics in the UK and USA.
Innovative firms are more profitable, more productive and more resilient.
Promoting innovation among existing firms and encouraging innovative entrepreneurship is therefore central to driving local growth.
The workshop will be of interest to those involved in the analysis and promotion of local growth and business development.
