Let's celebrate the joy of reading in America and the Philippines!
BKP is holding a global readathon from April 26-May 5, 2015. Proceeds from this fundraiser will enable us to procure & ship books to schools & community libraries in impoverished areas in the Philippines, & to provide training & support to teachers.
The $20 (or more) from each sponsor will support a readathoner’s ten day effort. Readathoners may choose what book to read, and very young children may be read aloud to for at least 10 mins per day for 10 days. Suggested books from Filipino authors are G. Bolandrina’s Tenacious Nurse; J. Cerrudo-Sese’s Nurse Vignettes and M Mencias; What’s Your Life Masterpiece? Free pdf copies are available to participants. Join us here.

BKP Reading Program
The Reading Buddies program was rolled out to immigrant Sponsors' schools in Northern Samar, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulan Sorsogon, Albay, Davao del Sur, Ilocos Norte, Batangas (20 schools). We piloted Teaching While Reading (TWR) in 10 schools fr 2012-2014 in Sorsogon City (focusing on 1st Phase: Reading Buddies involving 30 teachers & 1000 students thru Sorsoguena under Bing Fortin's leadership), & another 10 schools in Bulan Sorsogon (monitored by Czarina Sabado) involving 20 teachers & 700 students fr 2013-2014. Both initiatives are put on hold today as we ramp up on volunteers in the Philippines. We continue to monitor our progress in schools that have implemented these reading programs. Successes, implementation & monitoring challenges were identified at the Sponsors Evaluation Meeting held last April 12. April 25, 1-4:30pm is the next orientation for Reading Buddies Program. Current Events
Rowena Jimenez (Founder & Exec. Director) and Rowena Sy-Santos (Dir. of Business Dev) were invited as BKP panelists at the "Leadership & Mentoring Seminar" at Boston College last April 11. The event was sponsored by the Philippine Consulate Offce of New York. It was inspiring to be in a room full of young leaders!
Shout out to Myra Robinson and Rita Thorne for running & raising funds for BKP at the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) 5K Run this past April 4. Myra sponsors six BKP libraries in her hometown Bugasong, Antique.
