Hi Everyone,

This is my official proclamation: We aren't the new kids on the block anymore!

NYV is celebrating its 9th full year. We are firmly established as a leader in wine education, evenings with the world’s great winemakers, tastings and retrospectives of classic wines, regions and vintages. Most importantly, however, we are proud to be a resource for fine wines that provide the highest quality and value at each and every price point and style. We believe that a wine’s quality is determined in the glass.

We have made a lot changes and progress this year – none more influential than the return of Daniel Orrison to NYV as our Director of Business. Daniel relocated back to New York City with his beautiful and talented wife Filipa to help continue to grow NYV and for Filipa to be closer to her homeland of Portugal and her incredibly exciting wine project – Orison wines.

This is our third year trumpeting the value and quality of Orison wines. Many of you have had their flagship wine ‘Pipa’ – a delightful, fresh, mineral driven white wine with fruit notes made from a blend of Arinto, Antao Vaz, and Alvarhino from some of the top vineyard sites in Alentejo, Portugal. It is a FANTASTIC value and brilliant wine for the summer to pair with grilled seafood.

This is also the second vintage of their red wine – Rowan – named after Daniel’s niece. It is an extremely age worthy, powerful blend of Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Petit Verdot with delicious fruit juxtaposed against lead pencil and firm tannins. If you prefer classic St. Emilion with a touch of fruit and a taut skin – this is the wine is for you at a fraction of the price.

Today we are excited to offer the new pre-release vintages of Pipa and Rowan to our clients. TOTAL production of the winery is 600 cases and the momentum behind the brand nationally is special – a true passion project and the definition of an artisanal product. ORISON’s 2014 Pipa is an approachable yet focused blend of Arinto, Antao Vaz, and Alvarhino. With fruit sourced from several of the most important vineyards in Alentejo, Portugal, the wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak. Hand battonage, the process of stirring the lees in-barrel, uniquely influences the evolving texture and profile of the wine, highlighting a depth of mineral and fruit, clean-citrus, melon, and stone.

Grapes: Touriga Nacional | Alicante Bouschet | Aragonez | Petit Verdot

ORISON’s 2013 Rowan is a nuanced blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Alicante Bouschet. A wine of pure texture and power, the 2012 captures the character of a warm Portuguese vintage. Notes of raspberry, black pepper, and anise unfold in the glass. The wine was aged in French oak for 16 months and will mature gracefully for the next 8 to 15 years.
