Year 2014 was such a great year as we celebrated 10 years of Maendeleo. We have a few updates we would want to share with you.
1. In 2014 we gave US$6,000 towards Team Tanzania Scholar Award, our flagship project, in three medical schools in Tanzania.
Here are some excerpts;
"The “Team Tanzania Scholar Awardâ€, was a surprise to me and I was so very happy and grateful though I got the news late so I couldn’t make it at time to receive the award during the convocation ceremony. This award has been a big help to me as my family couldn’t afford to buy medical equipment for my internship practice, which now I can. This will improve my internship practice and make me a good doctor. Challenges I have faced while studying at Bugando is poor availability of resources for studying like classes, chairs, books as the number of students outweigh the available resources. Another challenge is poor quality equipment delivered to students for practice during their clinical years."

"It really changed my momentum and took me to a new high energy level and most of the time I feel energetic on reading. It’s an honour to my family too...I might have no good words to say to “MAENDELEO†group who donate the prizes but all what I can say is “Thank you a lot†for making the “Team Tanzania Awards†possible, you have honoured us, you have changed our lives for the better and above all, you have made us write history in our medical Carrier"

"Scarcity of medical doctors and subsequent increased need for health care services from the population is the reason I decided to come and study medicine. Honestly I was happy the day I got “TEAM TANZANIA SCHOLAR AWARDâ€, It was a new experience to me and apart from raising my morale it encouraged me to do my level best in all my studies and life as whole. At my family level school fees and buying books are the main challenges therefore the award will boast me at significant level."

3. Maendeleo Board of Directors will be meeting in mid-May in New York City to deliberate about projects for 2015. If you have any ideas, please do not hesitate to let us know before the meeting.
We continue to thank you for your support in 11 years of this organization's existence. We continue to feel blessed we can contribute towards helping Tanzanians in Tanzania, who are grateful of our support and continue to pay forward to other generations through their public and private practices.
