Big swells for the 2015 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro
Final preparations are being made at the spectacular site at Surfer’s Point, the venue for the World Surf League Championship Tour event 2015 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, which gets underway on Wednesday.
Surfing WA CEO and Event Director Mark Lane says a big crowd is expected, thanks to the forecast of a big swell.
“It’s the best event forecast we’ve had in a decade. Big swell draws big crowds, which makes for a great event for spectators and surfers alike,” Mr Lane says.
“The site is ready, we’re just applying a few finishing touches and will be all set for the WA Trials event tomorrow.”
The WA Trials which will run tomorrow from 7.30am until about 2.30pm, will see the highest scoring male and female surfers win a wild card entry into the Pro where they will surf against the world's best.
Surfing WA negotiated with the World Surf League to form part of the licence agreement that one WA male and one WA female would be given the opportunity to surf in the main event.
“It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for two WA surfers to win a wild card entry - it's the stuff dreams are made of,” Mr Lane says.
The World Surf League Championship Tour will bring the top 34 ranked male and top 17 ranked female surfers to the extraordinary waves of Western Australia. Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons are among the line up.

The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro is one of 11 events that make up the WSL Championship Tour, and will be held from April 15 until April 26. Over 12 days, surfers will compete on the days producing the best conditions.
More than 30,000 spectators are expected and over 3.5 million people will view the event live via the online stream.
