Welcome to St Clement’s, a contemporary, Redemptorist retreat and conference centre set on 800 acres in a tranquil, picturesque setting in rural New South Wales, Australia. The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of priests and brothers within the Catholic Church who live in community for the sake of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially among people on the margins of society and church.

Join us for Mary's month at Galong

May is a particularly exciting and inspiring month at St Clement's.

Hundreds of pilgrims each year flock to the Marian Procession (a scene from last year pictured above), which has a history going back many decades. This year, St Clement's is inviting you to combine attending the procession with a weekend of prayerful reflection which Sr. Robyn McNamara RSJ and Galong rector Fr Bill Goldman CSsR are guiding. It runs from 6pm, Friday, 1 May, to Sunday afternoon, 3 May, and concludes with the Marian Procession.

Retreat participants will be able to combine attending the procession with a few days prayerfully reflecting on Mary, the Mother of God, as a woman of faith and a disciple who leads us to Jesus. Please bring a bible to the retreat.

The Marian Procession celebration begins with the pilgrims' Mass at noon, with the crowning of the statue of Our Lady and procession to the grotto at 2pm.

Gentle, compassionate guide

A priest with many years of ministry in preaching and pastoral counselling will direct the six-day retreat from 20 to 27 July. Fr. Dom Carrigan CSsR from Newcastle is stepping into the director's role as Fr Glenn de Cruz is committed to an important Redemptorist meeting in Perth. Fr Dom is Catholic chaplain at the University of Newcastle and works in the parish of Wallsend/ Shortland. Fr Bill Goldman describes him as " a boy from the bush up Moree way and is a very approachable and prayerful man. I am sure you will find him a gentle and compassionate man".

Experience of a lifetime

Participants are looking forward to an experience of a lifetime with world-leading theologians Fr Anthony Kelly CSsR and Fr. Frank Maloney SDB sharing and discussing Pope Francis' call to Live the Joy of the Gospel from Sunday, 28 June, to Friday, 3 July. This is for anyone, lay, religious and clergy, and starts with the evening meal at 6pm on Sunday.

Thanks to 'Ned'

The latter-day tradition of hospitality to all began at Galong with Irish transportee Edward 'Ned' Ryan, who settled there in the late 1820s. The Ryans introduced new forms of agricultural practice which resulted in wealth and success for them and the wider community. The last of the Ryans died without issue and through the will of Ned’s son John Nagle Ryan, the property was passed onto the Redemptorist Congregation who established a monastery and a juvenate named for St Clement Hofbauer (1751-1820), in 1918. From the Rector

Dear Friends,
Blessings in this Easter season. I hope you all had holy and happy days over the Paschal Triduum. Our celebrations were well attended and, as someone said to me on Easter Monday, "every day was prayerful for me, I felt close to the Lord during these days". That seemed to be the sentiment of everybody and I thank God for this grace. I wish to thank all those involved in ministry in the liturgy over these days at St Clement's that made the experience prayerful, inclusive and uplifting.

These last few days we have had very welcome rain. When you live close to the land, you are conscious of the environment and the changing seasons and all their elements. Farmers are now getting ready to sow crops of wheat and canola (products that will end up on our table) which will be ready for harvest around late November and December. You might remember to say a prayer for those who suffer drought wherever they may be in the world; without water we can't produce food for consumption and sadly we have hunger in our world. This then becomes an environmental and human rights issue and, as Christians, an issue for us.

April, May and June are busy months here at St Clement's Redemptorist Retreat Centre with various groups booked in for retreats and seminars. I would like to draw special attention to the retreat on the May Procession weekend that Sr Robyn McNamara RSJ and I are giving. It starts on Friday, 1 May, with an evening meal at 6pm and concludes after the Mass and Procession on Sunday, 3 May. If you don't usually attend the May Procession, may I suggest this year you consider coming and combine it with a few days prayerfully reflecting on Mary, the Mother of God, as a woman of faith and a disciple who leads us to Jesus.

If you wish to check out our other upcoming retreats, click here, or telephone 02 6380 5222 to speak to our manager, Sue, or receptionist Liz.  Again I wish to pay special thanks to our team here at St Clements; their support and work makes St Clement's the hospitable place it is renowned for.

I am mindful that some who receive this enews are not well or in the best of health. Please be assured of the prayers of the community at St Clement's and may the healing power of the Holy Spirit bring you health and happiness.

Yours faithfully in the Redeemer and with best wishes,

Fr Bill
Rev William Goldman CSsR,  Rector.
