Letter from Shooting Stars President:
Shooting Stars Foundation, an organization which is initiated in 2010 and organized by FUSD high school students, successfully held the Spring Break Academic Boot Camp and 1:1 Tutoring Sessions at Fremont Adult School in Fremont, CA last week with the continuing support and sponsorship from Fremont Unified Student Store (FUSS).
We received a great turnout with about a hundred 2nd - 6th graders participating in the camp. We implemented the uprising common core standards and offered test taking strategies to help participants hone their skills in English Language Arts and Math.
In the group sessions, the students were inspired by one another and made new friends.
Parents enjoyed the innovative idea of the one-on-one tutoring as their children got hands on experience and worked with a designated high school student throughout the week.
About 20 FUSD high school students enthusiastically worked as tutors. It was a rewarding experience for the tutors as well as the participants as they worked together.
Shooting Stars received raving reviews from the participants and their families. Some families would also like to see the camp being offered at an equally affordable price during Winter and Summer Breaks.
Shooting Stars' objective is to raise funds to support Fremont Unified School District as well as to offer tuition fees for 2 - 3 students in Mexico /India. This year, camp fees were waived for 5 students as a way to provide financial assistance to the socio-economically challenged students. We are pleased to announce that this year; the camp was also offered in several other locations in Bay area and in other states including Georgia, New York, Massachusetts, and Washington.
