Hello all from County Durham Foodbank!
Thank you to everyone who takes an interest in the Foodbank project, all you supporters, donors, volunteers and referrers across the County; you are making a tangible difference to people's lives . Thank you!
It has been a while since our last newsletter, so here’s a quick round-up of highlights from 2014:
- Over 128,000 meals were given out.
- 10 new distribution points were opened.
- We were granted an amazing £400,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to aid expansion, in 2015 with this funding we are rolling out a project called 'From Crisis to Confidence', aiming to offer debt advice gradually across distribution points.
- We had a donation of 400 'Super Duck' Books to be given to children receiving food from the foodbank.
- An unfortunate incident with a burst waterpipe left us with a slightly damp foodstore, but on the upside the foodstore office was given a fresh coat of paint and a new carpet! Thanks goes to the TAP group from St Nic’s Durham for helping us with the redecorating.

The staff team has also changed as well! Here are snaps of some of the happy bunch who coordinate the work of the foodbank- don't hesitate to drop a line to the office if you have any foodbank queries. We are more than happy to help!

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who support the work of the foodbank through fundraising. One daring supporter completed a bungee jump and managed to raise over £200! We have more supporters organising cycle rides, and other sporting ventures over the coming months as well, good luck to all involved, and we will keep you updated on their adventures.

We are all eagerly anticipating the inaugural Emmanuel Church Summer Ball on 13th June, and the organising team would like to extend a special invitation to all volunteers to come and enjoy a great night out. More information to come but in the mean time- you best practise the dance moves!
