Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center surpasses $1.4 million goal

SWU's Division of Religion is moving closer to realizing its goal of a new home, thanks to the completion of the $1.4 million Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center Campaign. Left: Dr. Bob Black and Rev. Jim Wiggins, co-chairs for the campaign, unveiled a check for $1,467,801.39 during the university board of trustees meeting April 8 at Central. Right: Trustees applaud the good news. According to University President Todd Voss, the goal covers Southern Wesleyan’s purchase of the former Alive Wesleyan Church facility and property and also renovations. The University plans to close on the property this month.

Bench Dedication

Benches at the Sheriff National Guard Memorial Flag Plaza were dedicated April 8 in memory and in honor of members of the Collins and Sheriff families. Left: Lisa McWherter, VP for Advancement and Todd Voss, university president, are pictured with Patricia Collins (center) and family members at a bench named in memory of Roy Collins and in honor of members of her family. Right: McWherter and Voss are pictured with Anne Sheriff (center) at the bench dedicated to her late husband, Jimmy Don Sheriff and in honor and memory of her family members. Another bench located along the walkway to the plaza was dedicated to Bonnie Chapman Bowen and her sons Bobby, Barry, and Brian

Finding the true flavor of partnership

Just as a tasty sandwich is made up of ingredients that go together well, SWU believes its newly-formed partnership with McAlister’s Deli of Clemson is a great combination. McAlister’s and SWU entered into a partnership that will benefit student-athletes and the SWU athletic program. Tony Payne, SWU’s associate vice president for development, feels McAlister’s is a company that supports and believes what the university does.
“When I realized just how many of our staff, faculty, coaches and students ate there on a weekly basis, it was obvious that a partnership was a must,” Payne commented. Also pleased by the partnership, Chris Williams, SWU’s director of athletics, praised McAlister’s for being a “community-based restaurant.” Williams added, “They have quickly become a fan favorite of the surrounding community as well as the SWU community.”
For details about the partnership, contact Payne at apayne@swu.edu or call ext. 5014.
