Affordability in Austin: Understanding the Potential Impacts of Secondary Dwelling Units
Granny flats, alley flats, accessory dwelling units - whatever you call them, they are much talked about these days! While some people hail ADUs as “hidden density” that could increase the supply of much-needed housing units, others fear ADU's and their potential impact (taxes, property values, parking) on neighborhoods. Please join us Tuesday, April 14th, at 5:00 pm at Town Lake Center (721 Barton Springs Road) for an enlightening conversation on this timely topic. Panelists include Guadalupe Neighborhood Development Corporation (and HousingWorks Board Member) Mark Rogers, as well as the president of the Austin Neighborhoods Council, chief appraiser for the Travis Central Appraisal District, and a UT Professor who specializes in secondary dwelling units. The Panelists will discuss their thoughts on ADU's ability to increase affordable housing options, how ADU's can fit into a neighborhood context and any potential property tax implications. The Planning Commission is considering ADU code amendments and the next public hearing is April 28th. The April 14th panel discussion is a great way to ask some questions, get some answers, and get better informed in anticipation of potential ADU code amendments. We hope to see you there!
