Apply for a CAMP fellowship by May 15!
The Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP) will be taking place this year at the Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, Mont., from Oct. 9 to 11. This year is extra special as the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) celebrates its 30th anniversary. The annual JAWS CAMP focuses on strengthening core journalism skills, building personal brands and careers, developing strategies for success in our evolving media landscape, improving gender parity in our profession, empowering women in leadership and management, and encouraging a more accurate portrayal of the whole society. Participants will enjoy a dynamic weekend filled with inspiring speakers, motivating career development sessions and rewarding networking and mentoring opportunities. It’s an experience that has helped launch countless careers, and it’s also ignited lifelong friendships. JAWS will be offering four fellowships this year.

Apply for the Emerging Journalist Fellowships
Emerging Journalist Fellowships are open to professionals in the early stages of their careers. We are looking for journalists with at least one but no more than five years of professional journalism experience. Winners are selected based on a combination of merit, financial need and their potential contribution to JAWS as an organization that supports diversity across race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, media platform, beat and location. This fellowship is not currently open to undergraduate students. Graduate students may apply. We encourage undergraduates to become involved by joining JAWS at the student rate and attending other JAWS events and regional gatherings.

Apply for the JAWS Diversity Fellowship
The goal of the JAWS Diversity Fellowship is to help the practice of journalism better reflect society. This is an opportunity for journalists who are traditionally underrepresented in newsrooms, including but not limited to women of color, journalists in the LGBTQ community and those with disabilities. In your personal statement, be sure to show how you add a diverse voice to the media landscape and highlight efforts you have made to improve representation of diverse groups in media.

Apply for the Next Step Fellowship
Are you trying to figure out what’s next? The Next Step Fellowship may be for you. In the turbulent world of today’s journalism, women with established careers often need to explore new avenues for practicing their craft. JAWS will recognize these veteran journalists by bringing at least one to CAMP 2015 where she can participate in hands-on technical and social media workshops, individual mentoring and lots of informal brainstorming to figure out next steps and learn about new opportunities in the rapidly changing new media landscape. Applicants should be at a career point where they want to shift gears and find new opportunities. They should have a substantive record of at least 15 years working as a journalist. Preference will be given to current JAWS members who would not otherwise be able to attend CAMP.

Apply for the Entrepreneurial Fellowship
The goal of the Entrepreneurial Fellowship is to help a woman journalist move forward with an innovative journalism project. JAWS will help bring this entrepreneur to CAMP 2015, where she will have the opportunity to mine the JAWS brain trust and explore skills that will be useful for her proposed project. The fellowship covers CAMP registration and most travel expenses. Applicants should be journalists with a well-conceived project, the background that shows they can do it, and at least five years of professional experience. Preference is given to JAWS members.
