releasing the busy beast

There have been constant reminders in my life as of late around the idea of busyness. It started when I stayed with my friend Stevie recently and was inspired by the time she allowed herself every morning to paint, then my friend Ksenia sent me this article with tips on how to Banish "Busy-Ness."

When an aspect of our lives is on overload, the universe has its ways of communicating it to us, if we are willing to pay attention

I am one of those people who responds to "how are you?" with "good, busy as usual!" I'm sure many of you can relate, especially when we live in a world full of distractions. How can we resist the constant stream of Buzzfeed articles, birthday dinners, weekend brunches and non-work related activities?

One thing about being busy for me has to do with feeling worthy of success. "If I work hard I will deserve this; I will only be worthy of this if I put in a lot of time and effort." Really, though, we are all deserving all the time, regardless of how many hours we put in at work per week or how excessively we train.

The thing is that the busier we become, the more distracted we are from being with and getting to know ourselves. It's easy to crowd out the stuff that bothers us about ourselves with exterior things [she says as she types this on her handheld device] which prevent us from recognizing how deserving and whole we already are.

My friend Ksenia of Breakfast Criminals and I recently had a Saturday morning date [when there was still ice on the sidewalks] that included MatchaBar lattes, a stroll through my favorite McCarren Park Greenmarket, and impromptu pre-yoga toasts before my class at Goodyoga.

farewell for now...

I don't think it's a fault to be passionate about what we do, whatever and whenever that is during the various phases of our life. That being said, I do feel passionate about us as individuals and a community being able to recognize when we crowd our lives in ways that prevent us from getting to know and taking care of our Selves. As I mentioned before - the more space we learn to create in our schedule, the more we'll find in our heart. Not convinced? I'm here for support.
