I found this past Sunday to be quite moving - as many of you did and shared with me.  I was blessed to see everyone participating in their own capacity and style - from children to adults, from walking and painting, sitting and praying, to moving and singing.  It was poignant for me as a reminder that we are all called to walk in the footsteps of Christ - to live like he lived - to love as he loved - however we can.  A big thank you to our musicians who helped shaped the active mediation time with such inviting music. Thank you for blessing me through your participation.

You can find more photos of the experience on our Facebook Page.  If you have thoughts, reactions or ways in which you were blessed through this creative worship - talk with Monte.

You can download the meditation guide, with the repletion question online HERE if you'd like to continue your Every Day We Move meditation.

Hoping to see you Sunday, if not before,

Worship This Week (Header Image)

This coming Sunday
 April 19, 2015
Luke 24:13-35

The text for this week is the majestic retelling of the Road to Emmaus.  Two disciples encounter Jesus without knowing it on the road.  It's about religion and spirituality, recogninzing that God is present with us even if not visible.  It's about reminding each other of that truth, and when we glimpse it.

Prayer Requests shared in worship on April 12, 2015

Prayers of praise and gratitude for:

  • For Pastor Monte’s courage and leadership as the Presbytery seeks to resolve issues for Primera Iglesia
  • My brother Andre is doing better. His mood and attitude are less depressed and more positive.
  •  My stepfather Cal is growing stronger physically and mentally stronger every day.

Prayers for God to intervene for:
  •  For Linda Trowbridge who has come home from the hospital and is still quite weak, recovering from chemo and surgery;
  •   Remembering Austin Price, on the second anniversary of his death, too soon.
  • That Joseph Smith seeks help with his alcohol problem and finds God today.
  • Pray for my daughter who lost her boyfriend, Alfred Taylor,  this past Wednesday. Also, her father, James Moore,  fell and broke his hip.
  • Gerry Parsons and Nancy, struggling with difficult conversations.
  • A family member of Annette’s who has a mental illness and is now in the criminal justice system awaiting arraignment.
  • Daphne Moody whose husband died on Palm Sunday.

Help us with your Perspective, Suggestions and Gratitude for the weekly Taizé Prayer Service we had during Lent.

Can you invest less than3 minutes to help Monte - and our larger church leadership - in our worship planning and visioning?  Monte has prepared a brief 8 question survey that you can fill out in less than 3 minutes.  Your feedback will help us in our conversations about our worship ministry this year and inform our discernment in terms of next year.  Specifically we're pondering the possibility of offering a regular scheduled Taizé styled prayer service as both a way to engage new people and to care spiritually for our existing community members.

To take the survey simply click on the TAIZE SURVEY LINK below
and you'll be directed to the Survey Monkey Online Questionnaire.

Thank you in advance!
The survey closes Monday, April 20th

Contemplative Prayer Group Starts May 2nd!

Ever wondered about contemplative prayer or what some call “centering prayer”?

The Women’s Group that meets on Saturday mornings will sponsor a series of discussions and practice on the topic for eight weeks, beginning Saturday, May 2 through the middle of July (first three Saturdays of each month only). We will meet from 8:30 am to 10:00 am and spend time discussing the practice and practicing! This series is for folks (men or women) who have no experience with contemplative prayer to those who want a refresher or a nudge or boost to hone their practice. We will read Martin Laird’s Into the Silent Land for our study and discussion.

 Concrete & Local Ways
to Put Your Faith in
Action

Teach English as a Second Language in partnership with
our sister church Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana

They need volunteers for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. beginning April 20th.  Matt Miles (who runs the program) will meet and mentor you in teaching.  These classes are for recently arrived immigrants who are mainly looking to improve their English to find work.  You're not teaching Shakespeare, but rather the English we all use each and every day - and there is a book for you to use.
You don't have to be a trained teacher, or an experienced one.  What's needed are English speakers who are willing to love others as Jesus first loves us.

The specifically need help with:
Monday Night - 2 basic level classes
Tuesday Night - 1 basic class and 1 intermediate class (every other week)
Wednesday Night - 1 basic class

If you're interested talk to Monte.

What's Going on with the Nestlé Parking Lot?

Some of you experienced first hand stress with the changing security at the Nestlé parking lot which we regularly use.  Monte is in conversation with the Nestlé Chief Security Person.  Unfortunately he's traveling this week so we're playing phone tag.

You are able to park in the lot.  And to do so at night or the weekends, you'll need to enter the lot only from the Chabot side.  The Claremont side is no longer the principal entryway, and is regularly closed.  The exit doors are always closed, but will open as you approach them in your car, thanks to censors in the ground.  So you shouldn't ever be "locked in" or trapped in the parking lot.

Nestlé also always has a minimum of 3 security people working on the premises.  Most of them are very friendly with our church members.  You can contact them at any time for help, to open the gate, or to help you get out of the parking lot.  They all receive phone calls on one cell phone number which is : (510) 517-9131.

Monte is still working on ensuring that the access we were promised is what we actually receive.  Look for more updates in this Sunday's bulletin, or next week.
