Payments for Ecosystem Services conference in Uganda, 25-26 March, 2015
Plan Vivo secretariat staff travelled to Uganda from 25-26 March, 2015 to attend a conference and technical workshop on Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES), jointly organised by ESPA, IIED and Ecotrust Uganda. Focusing on PES in the smallholder context, participants at this event included presentations from high-ranking officials from Uganda, such as Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, as well as international PES practitioners.
Both events focused on sharing workable and cost-effective solutions from ongoing Plan Vivo projects, specifically focusing on financing PES schemes, how to bridge technical gaps and how to design inclusive agendas that are community-led.
Plan Vivo project developers from Mexico, Uganda and Nicaragua shared lessons on the pitfalls and recovery strategies of utilising carbon offsets to co-fund sustainable PES projects.
IIED and ESPA co-produced an informative flyer which gives an overview of PES systems, value chains and business models. Moreover, the brief looks at the factors that influence success for PES schemes. The flyer can be accessed here.
