Data-Planet Statistical Datasets

The UVa Library has a trial to Data-Planet Statistical Datasets until June 30th.

Data-Planet Statistical Datasets provides easy access to an extensive repository of standardized and structured statistical data. The repository contains more than 18.9 billion data points from over 70 source organizations, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Statistics Canada, and Zillow Real Estate Metrics.

Search for data by keyword or browse 16 subject categories. Users can create charts, graphs, and maps and download data in a variety of file formats (e.g., Excel, SAS, XML, Shapefile) for use with statistical or GIS software.

April UVa R Users Group Meetup

The UVa R Users group will meet again on Tuesday, April 21. At this meetup, we'll talk about performing sentiment analysis and analyzing social networks. Our speakers include VP Nagraj and Yun Tai. VP, a web developer with the UVa Health Sciences Library, will give us a demonstration of syuzhet, a package for the extraction of sentiment and sentiment-based plot arcs from text. Yun, a CLIR Data Curation Fellow with the UVa Library, will introduce us to social network analysis using the network and sna packages.

Do you need to create online surveys? UVa has a site license for QuestionPro, a web-based software tool for creating surveys, collecting responses, and analyzing results. Visit our QuestionPro page to learn more about setting up an account.

We're also excited to announce that with QuestionPro you can now collaborate on creating and distributing surveys with other researchers at UVa. All new accounts will have this feature; however, existing accounts (those created before April 1, 2015) will need to be upgraded to add this functionality. Please contact Research Software Support at res-consult@virginia.edu if you need to upgrade your account to share surveys with other UVa researchers.
