Rita’s Italian Ice will be available for purchase on Friday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. It’s $3 cash per cup.


Spring Fling!
Spring Fling is THIS Saturday!!! Join us at Abel's North from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. for an amazing silent and live auction benefitting our amazing technology teacher, Mrs. Barbara Neill.

- Wristbands are available for purchase in the Great Hall before and after school this week for $25. They will also be available at the event. Buying a wristband will get you two drinks and heavy appetizers.

- This auction can't be missed! Ricky Williams and Vince Young autographed footballs, hotel stays, restaurant gift cards, beautiful art work, Disneyland Tickets, and SO MUCH MORE!!

- Thank you all for your donations and assistance that made this year's Classroom Creations some of the best ever. Classroom Creations are available for viewing and bidding this week in the library. Teacher Time and Talents will also be available for bidding in the Great Hall. As in years past, there will be a Buy Now option for the baskets and that will be available ONLY on FRIDAY, APRIL 10th AFTER SCHOOL. If someone attempts to Buy Now prior to FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL, the bid will be removed. If you choose the Buy Now option on Friday afternoon, you will take the bidding sheet directly to the cashier to pay immediately for that item. Bidding on the Teacher Time and Talents will close at the event on Saturday.

- If you have your wristband, your bidder number is written on it. If you do not have a wristband, get your bidder number at www.summittspringfling.com and start your bidding. Like our Facebook Page to get all the latest info and see pictures of some of our great auction items.

- We still need your help this week and at the event. Please go to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C044EAAA62CA0F85-spring/26764108 and sign up to volunteer.  

- The auction is open to the public. Anyone may come out and bid on the auction items, even without a wristband. You just need a bidder number.

- If you cannot make it to Spring Fling but would like to support our technology teacher, please consider making a monetary donation. Your donation will be tax-deductible. Just let us know that you’ll need a receipt for tax purposes. Make checks out to Summitt PTA, memo: Spring Fling.


Librarian Appreciation Week
April 12-18  is Librarian Appreciation Week. ​Please remember our librarian, Denise Richey, and all of the hard work she does for us by saying thank you to her in commemoration of Librarian Appreciation Week, April 12-18, 2015!


Second Grade musical
2nd graders will present the musical Big Beautiful Planet Thursday, April 9, 2015. Our students will have a dress rehearsal at 8:30 am for the school. The evening  performance is at 6:30 for parents, family, and friends. We'll see you at the show!


Safe Routes to School
Please encourage students to ride or walk to school every day. They can put their name in the 2 big buckets (one for walker and another one for biker) at the table by the entrance for a raffle every morning at our Assembly. At the end of April we will have another drawing, first prize wins a  bike, and a T-shirt for second prize. We will also have a  bike rodeo with obstacles and bike repairs/maintenance on May 30. PTA general meeting
There will be a PTA General Meeting on Monday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Officer elections for the 2015-2016 PTA board will take place at the beginning of the general meeting. The nominating committee has chosen the following candidates for the following positions:

President-Courtney Cardosa

VP 1- Jill Maxfield

VP 2- Nicole Erickson

Treasurer- Amy Pedersen

Secretary- Jana Bermudez

Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the meeting if any other parties are interested.

The remainder of the meeting will be a question and answer session for parents with questions about the dual language program. This was requested by several parents in the Summitt community. A representative from the district dual language department has been invited by Ms. Standish to attend. If you have questions, concerns, or simply want more information, please make plans to attend.


Parking reminders
Please remember not to block the driveways of the homes on Mosley Lane when you visit the school. Also, please do not park/block the buses in the bus driveway when school lets out in the afternoon.


Counselor’s Corner
​CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. NEWBERRY'S FOURTH GRADE! They won the March attendance award because they had the highest percentage of children arriving at school on time----98.8% This class only had 4 (FOUR) tardies for the whole month. They will be celebrating this week. Thank you to all who turned in calendars. The percentages were really great.

For the month of April we will track attendance(not tardies) and you will be able to drop some of your days, so please keep your calendars and turn them in even if you don't think you might win. I will let you know later in the month how we will drop days with many absences.

Need used Crocs
Our One World Spanish teacher is collecting used Crocs to pass out to villagers in Central America. There will be a box in the Great Hall on Monday. The villagers love to wear Crocs because they’re easy to clean and wear.


Fifth Grade Dance
Calling all 5th grade parents! We are only weeks away from the 5th Grade Dance, which is held in the afternoon after the awards/graduation ceremony. It is up to the parents to organize this event since the teachers are so busy with everything else. If would like to be involved in making the kids first school dance a success email Kynna at kynna@outlook.com.  


Open PTA positions
We have the following PTA positions open for the 2015-2016 school year. If you are interested or have questions about these positions, please contact ccardosa@msn.com

- Box Tops Coordinator - The coordinator counts the Box Tops that get turned into the school and sends them in for cash.

- Skate Night Coordinator - schedule, advertise for, and attend the 4 skate nights for the school year. This can be divided among 2 volunteers.

- Coke Rewards Points Volunteer - collects and enters Coke rewards points donated to the school.

- Boosterathon Coordinator - new position that will work with Boosterathon contacts to put on a Boosterathon next spring. Most of the work will be done by the organization, but we need a contact person.

- Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Event Coordinator - new position that will help create ideas, organize, and put on these two events at Summitt. Can be one person who does both or one person for each.


Winter Break in Vietnam
Would you like to take a pedicab ride down the Old French Quarters in Ha Noi? Visit the ancient town of Hoi An with its beautiful 16th century Japanese bridge? How about spending a night on a riverboat in Ha Long Bay? A group of Summitt families and staff will venture to Vietnam during winter break 2015. On the itinerary are stops in Ha Noi, Ha Long, Danang, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the Mekong Delta. There are spots for only 40 people so contact Thuy Nguyen if you’re interested: thuy.nguyen@austinisd.org

Murchison Matador Fest on Friday
Matador Fest is the MMS PTA Spring Carnival and is one of our major fundraisers for our PTA which helps us fund our classroom and school support.

It is THIS FRIDAY, April 10 from 6-9:00 p.m. But new this year, we are having a pre-festival dinner hour for folks who can join us for dinner before the carnival or before heading to kickball, LAX, soccer, or baseball games and the like. We have food trucks and vendors from Hat Creek, Jim Jim’s, Blue Baker, Carnival Concessions with hamburgers, corn dogs, Frito pies, pizza and more. This food court will be in front of the school with tickets on sale right there and will be a great place for our community to gather from 5-6 p.m. until the carnival begins. And the food court will remain open throughout Matador Fest.

We invite all elementary families in our vertical team to come. But we especially want to encourage families of current 5th grade/soon-to-be 6thgraders to come join us Friday night. This is a great opportunity for your student to spend some time on our campus becoming more comfortable and familiar and learning just how cool Murchison really is! And 5th grade parents: you should sign up to work a booth or volunteer in some way – you will enjoy working alongside current MMS families and learn more about your future school community!

TICKETS ARE ON SALE ONLINE for advanced purchase with a special deal: For every $5 bundle you get a 6th ticket for free; for every $10 bundle you get 3 tickets for free. Most games and activities will be 1-2 tickets, drinks will be 1 ticket, and most food items will be 2-4 tickets. Night of the Robots
Night of the Robots with the Anderson High School Robotics Team, Friday, April 10th, 5:30-9:30 pm. Enjoy a Parents Night Out while your kids (K-5th grade) enjoy an evening of all things Robots! Adelphi Acres Garden News
We're so close to being finished but there's still lots to do like completing the fence so plantings are protected from deer and other critters. We also need to fill a few additional beds that were built and continue mulching. If you have some spare time this weekend we'd love your help!WORK DAY SCHEDULE FOR APRIL:

This all to leads up to our Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, April 18! It’s from 10am-1pm - Everyone is invited!


Anderson Softball camp
The Anderson High School Softball Coaching Staff will conduct a softball camp for girls going into 4th grade to incoming freshmen. The instruction will include fielding, throwing, hitting, and base-running. There will also be position specific instruction. The camp will be conducted on the Anderson High School softball practice field. Water will be provided for campers throughout the camp. All campers will be given a Trojan Softball t-shirt on the last day of the camp. The registration fee for the Trojan Softball Camp is $100.00 per participant. Participants are required to provide their own transportation, shorts, shoes and shirts. You may register in advance by completing this registration form and returning it to Coach Davis by June 10th , 2015.


Purchase Anderson flags
The Anderson PTSA is selling AHS FLAGS!  There are two styles...3'x 5' (flagpole size) and ​8" x 12" – pre-sewn on wooden rod. The large flag is $50 and the small flag is $10. Dinosaur George at Pillow Elementary
A traveling museum of Dinosaur George is coming to Pillow Elementary on April 10-11! It is open to the public and will be at Pillow Elem. Gym (3025 Crosscreek Dr), on Fri. Inter-stateTeacher of the year nominations

Reading Skills and Speed Reading Programs for Children and Adults
This is a summer program offered by Texas Christian University's Office of Extended Education. It will focus on phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, study skills, speed reading, and love of reading. They offer programs for pre-kindergarten through 12 grade. There are several locations in Austin and Round Rock. We have placed flyers on the information table in the Great Hall. Austin Child Guidance Center event
ACGC is hosting a FREE Parent Workshop titled, "Divorce and Parental Separation: Helping Children Cope" on Thursday, April 9th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This workshop draws primarily from Gary Neuman's approach to helping families with divorce as described in his book Helping Your Kids Cope with Divorce the Sandcastles Way.You can register here or call the center at 512-451-2242.
