March Highlights
 
 
  • Foundation of Goodness' ongoing programmes have benefited 4,360 beneficiaries via 30 productive empowerment sectors covering 100+ villages free of cost from the South, North and East during this month at the cost of Rs. 6,256,737.99 (USD 45,721/-) 
 
  • In the month of March, we have received as many as 36 exciting collaborative value addition initiatives worldwide, by way of numerous concepts to be considered in improving the quality of life through our unique one of a kind holistic model.
  •  We congratulate Tharindu Kaushal from the Foundation of Goodness family, who played for Sri Lanka as a member of the National Cricket Squad at the Cricket World Cup Quarter Finals.
  • Special gifts and donations this month included sponsorship for a wiring and electricity supply costs for a beneficiary’s home and the donation of a sewing machine by Krishna and Nithya Selvanathan from USA, the donation of a fridge to the Madampe Elders Home from Ramya Tennekoon of Stellario Realty Group, Australia and continuous gifts to Anula Girls from Julie Kent, UK.
  • A blood donation drive was organized at the Medical Centre to commemorate Founder Kushil Gunasekera’s birthday.
  • Founder Kushil Gunasekera is invited to attend special events in Australia organized by Women In Tourism International Alliance (WITIA), Stellario Realty Group, Charlton Brown, and the HOW Foundation to promote, fundraise and discuss future collaborations to enhance the humanitarian endeavors carried out by the Foundation of Goodness.
  •  A delegation from USAID visit the village of Seenigama and the MCC Centre of Excellence to witness the progress made in the decade following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami since FoG received the first grant for the clean up campaign after the disaster.
  • Magic Bus, India visits the Seenigama Sports Academy and conduct a 10 day training programme on the topic of ‘Problem Solving Through Sports’, preparing Youth Leaders and FoG coaches and staff for a year long programme.
  • A team from Chagall Salon, led by Gerald Solomons, conduct a beauty care training workshop in Seenigama.
  • FoG Trustee Muthiah Muralidaran visited the MCC Centre of Excellence during a visit to Seenigama with Wasantha Dugganarala while filming a documentary series on Agriculture, focusing on the Women's Enterprise & Empowerment Cookery Class.
  • The Sri Lanka Lifesaving Association conduct a one day workshop on life saving practices and water safety for the Seenigama Diving & Training Centre students and other locals from the region.
  • Mr. Dorian Cole and Mrs. Lona Fortune with Sr. Canice conduct a training for the Community Psycho-social Team on cognitive behavior therapy and working together.
  • Indira Aryaratne & Gaya Hapuarachchi, supported by the Planet Wheeler Foundation, conduct organisational methods & responsibilities workshops for the Foundation of Goodness staff.
  • Ama Peiris conducts English Classes for the Community Psycho-social Team via Skype from U.S.A., in a dedicated effort to develop their language skills.
  • The 2nd Batch of cataract surgeries for 9 rural beneficiaries were completed with kind donations from the Sri Lanka Association in Geneva (SLAG) as facilitated by the Foundation of Goodness in association with Help Age, to restore eyesight for those without the financial means to undergo surgery.
  • The Anula Girls’ Home annual trip is sponsored by the Stellario Realty Group- Australia, giving the girls a wonderful opportunity to visit the Central and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka, sightseeing in Anuradhapura, Trincomalee and Ampara before returning home.
  • The Seenigama BPO and ArtBanc BPO teams also went on their annual trips to strengthen team bonds, while 75 kids from the Lahiru Pre-school made a trip to a Children’s Park while accompanied by their teachers and parents.
  • FoG’s inaugural elocution class commences in Seenigama to improve the diction and fluency in English among Seenigama pre-schoolers and Year 1 students, while building confidence in their use of the language.
  • 60 students from the FoG Cookery Class students visit Peacock Beach Hotel in Hambanthota as part of their course for experience and exposure to the tourism industry.
  • It has been a busy month for the Community Psycho-social Team who conducted an autism awareness programme in Kahawa and for the Women’s Enterprise & Empowerment Centre beneficiaries, a family planning programme for the parents of Children’s Goodness Club members, a nutrition programme at the Akurala Child Resilience Centre and a workshop for the Lahiru Pre-school teachers.
  • The FoG Medical Centre Team conduct their monthly medical camp at the Wellawatta Elder’s Home to ensure that everyone remains in good health and good spirits.
  • Loughborough University, Fettes College, Ewell College and North Cote Lodge from UK, Ontario Academy from Canada and Sabu Weerasooriya Cricket Academy from Sri Lanka conducted sports tours to the Seenigama Sports Academy and played friendly matches against the FoG cricket teams.
  • Outstanding community aid projects for this month carried out by FoG students and beneficiaries include programmes by MCC Computer Centre and Aviva Kids’ Computer Course students as well as the weekly beach cleaning campaigns conducted by the Diving & Training Centre.
  • The Foundation of Goodness swimming squad performs exceptionally well at the 2015 All Island Novices Swimming Championship, with R. M. Sachin winning the Under 20 Boys’ Championship.
  • The Seenigama Wimalabuddhi School Volleyball Team sponsored by the Foundation of Goodness, participate in the Zonal Inter-School Competition and win the U19 Boys’, U19 Girls, U17 Boys’, U15 Boys’ and U15 Girls’ championships and become Runners Up in the U17 Girls’ Championship.
  • Tharuka Dilendra from the FoG Sports Academy Karate Class won a merit place at the 20th International Kensho Open Karate Do Championship, 2015.
  • The Sports Academy has introduced Elite Squads for exceptionally talented sportsmen from each sport played at the Sports Academy. The 19 sportsmen and women chosen for these Elite Squads will receive targeted and specialized training to develop into professional athletes and sportsmen.

  • The Foundation of Goodness is delighted to have 10 volunteers from USA, India, Sweden and Sri Lanka with us this month, adding value to our work.
  • 85 Village Welfare projects amounting to Rs. 1, 012, 452.24  (USD 7,596/-) divided among areas such as healthcare, scholarships, electricity, water and general welfare were facilitated this month to uplift the living standards of rural villagers to ease their burden in addition to the ongoing campus style of operation in place.

Sector Spotlight: 
Computer Training Centre

The Foundation of Goodness prioritizes access to computers underpinned by high quality training for rural communities, through our own dedicated and well equipped Computer Training Centre. We also assist schools to develop their IT resources and staff. The IT Centre offers courses in web design, graphic design, programming & MS Office and has provided over 500 computers to 100+ schools and individuals.
