SPECIAL REPORT

Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, came to Harrow East to lend a hand on the campaign trail. View his video report below:

DID YOU HEAR?
GOOD NEWS FOR THE RNOH!

After years of campaigning for a funding injection to help rebuild the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore, the NHS Trust Development Authority has finally agreed to an unconditional loan of £20million. This is a great victory for the hospital and will be a huge relief to all of the hardworking staff who have been providing a world class service in substandard conditions for far too long. This really is tremendous news for everyone locally as it will kick-start a whole new era for this fantastic facility.

FULL STEAM AHEAD
FOR CROSSRAIL EXPANSION

The Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, paid a visit to Harrow and Wealdstone Station to give his backing for the proposal to extend Crossrail to the station as part of the second phase. This extention would create new jobs and kickstart a regeneration for the local high street and I am working alongside your candidate in Harrow West, Hannah David, to make it happen!

IGNITE TRUST VISIT

Hannah and I headed to trailblazing local youth charity, the Ignite Trust, to celebrate them receiving a grant of £8,378 from the Big Lottery Fund. The Trust has a very successful programme of positive engagement with young people at risk of developing anti-social behaviour, providing sports, music and youth events and clubs, as well as activities related to employment and educational attainment. We visited a project called “In the Mix”, which is being delivered through a partnership of Ignite, Home Group, Roxeth Community Church and South Harrow Nando's.

Ignite has two local centres, one in Wealdstone and the other in Rayners Lane. To find out more about how to get engaged, visit www.ignitetrust.org.uk.

ACHIEVEMENTS CHECKLIST

The last time the Labour Party were in Government, we were left with a record mountain of public debt and a huge deficit. Now, after only 5 years of a Conservative Government, that deficit is falling, employment is rising and our economy is growing. Hardworking taxpayers locally are seeing the benefits and we now have an unemployment figure of less than 2% in Harrow East.

This May you have the chance to vote for a tried and tested MP with a track record of getting things done.
Bob has already:

•    Safeguarded Whitchurch Playing Fields from a private consortium for local schools to use.

•    Personally hosted more than 2000 constituents on tours of the Houses of Parliament with Q&A sessions.

•    Successfully campaigned for funding for Northwick Park Hospital’s new £21 million A&E facility and secured £20 million for the redevelopment of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.
•    Lobbied to ensure that funding has been made available for schools locally, with £70 million secured and 15 local primary schools currently expanding (including Elmgrove School, pictured below, right).

•    Fought on behalf of local residents whose lives are being blighted by Barnet FC’s Hive.

•    Campaigned tirelessly for lifts to be added to Stanmore and Canons Park stations and strongly supported plans to extend Crossrail to Harrow and Wealdstone station.

•    Taken up more than 17,000 individual cases on behalf of local residents. No problem to big!

GET INVOLVED!

If you have a few hours to spare, come along and get involved. Everyone has a part to play, whether it's by helping put together leaflets, dropping them off when you have the time, speaking to people on the phone or going out and talking to them on the doorsteps. If you just want to show support, why not ask us for a poster to put in your window! We'll be more than happy to get one to you.

And we often have interesting visitors coming in to lend a hand alongside our volunteers, like former Education Secretary and current Chief Whip Michael Gove, for example...

Don't be shy!  Come volunteer by emailing harroweastconservatives@btinternet.com or by calling 020 8421 4161.
