Project Updates

TREC Measurement System

The TREC Measurement System (TMS) is a longitudinal observational study that explores the strength of linkages between work environment, best practice use, and nursing home resident outcomes using staff survey data and RAI-MDS 2.0 data. The purpose of this study is to discover ways to improve quality of care and quality of life for residents and the quality of work life for care providers.

We are pleased to announce that we have now recruited all 91 nursing homes into the study. We have collected data in 88 facilities so far, and have completed over 4030 computer assisted surveys with health care aides.

We want to say thank you to all the facilities and front line staff who are participating in this study!

Advice Seeking Networks in Long Term Care

This study is identifying existing advice seeking networks among care homes in the four western, four Atlantic provinces and the three northern provinces/territories. Nursing home leaders from nearly 1000 facilities are being asked to complete a short online survey which collects information on who leaders look to for advice on running nursing home facilities.

Data collection is complete in Atlantic Canada and currently active in the four Western Provinces and the north until the beginning of May. Work is underway to develop network maps for the Atlantic region. We are planning to host focus groups with decision makers which will help us better understand the maps and connections.

SCOPE

Safer Care for Older Persons (in residential) Environments (SCOPE) is a quality improvement intervention study. It is designed to assess the effectiveness of a facilitation intervention on the use of best practices and on relevant staff and resident outcomes.

The SCOPE project is gearing up to begin recruiting nursing homes. The intervention will be run in 36 nursing homes across British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. Researchers and staff are busy preparing the intervention material and finalizing ethics approvals.
