Get Your Hands on It

Sesssion 5

Having lots of information in your project is nice and all, but something seems to be missing… oh yeah, the sources themselves.

Once you've identified the references you want to take a look at more closely, it's time to find a copy of them. Citavi helps you do just that.

Locating Journal Articles
Stack of journalsIf you're connected to your university network via VPN you can search for full-text articles by clicking References and then clicking Check availability and find full text. You can also use OpenURL to see if you have access to the full text of an article through your organization.

Preparing for a Trip to the Library
Citavi helps you make your visit to the library more efficient, so that you can spend less time hunting all over the place for your books and more time visiting the library cafe — er, getting started on that first draft of your thesis.

First use Quick select to filter out all of the books in your project, and then batch assign the Borrow task. You can then use the Find library locations feature to search for the call numbers in your library. Switch to the Task Planner and display only Borrow tasks. Then sort the list by call number and click Print task list on the toolbar. You now have a list of books arranged by call number.
Extra Credit: Use Citavi to Order Books
You often may be able to borrow a book even if your library doesn't have a copy, as long as interlibrary loan services are available. However, if you want to purchase books, you can do so from within Citavi, either from an online bookseller such as Amazon or by email from your local bookstore.
