What's New for April?


Stay active with Explore Decatur Walks, Bright at Night, Pickleball and Badminton at Ebster, Bike Rides and Earth Day!

The first Explore Decatur walk will be this Sunday, April 11 at 2 pm
.
Join the Pedestrian committee of the Active Living Board at 2 pm in front of the Decatur Recreation Center. This month's walk will be led by a Leonard Thibadeau, a resident gardener involved with the Tanyard Creek Community Garden. On this walk visit Tanyard Creek Garden and Scott Garden. The Sunday walks are slow paced and family friendly. More info here.

On Thursday, April 23, join the group for the monthly Bright at Night Fitness walks. Meet and be ready to walk at 7:30 pm from the Decatur Recreation Center. Wear bright clothing or something reflective to "Be Safe, Be Seen!"

The Third Friday Fun Bike Ride returns on Friday, April 17. This is an all-levels social bike ride that goes at a slow pace for 5-6 miles. All levels of riders are welcome and no one will be left behind! After our ride, we visit one of Decatur's watering holes for refreshment.
New Location!  Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to ride at 6:30 pm. We have a bicycle repair station out front so you can put air in your tires and make any minor adjustments. Please wear a helmet and lights are strongly suggested for your ride home. Pickleball and Badminton at Ebster Recreation Starts Next Week!

Pickleball will be held at Ebster Gym on Wednesday evenings from 4 - 7 pm. All ages are welcome. Grab your tennis shoes and head on over to play the fastest  growing sport in America!. Free to Decatur residents, non-residents $3.
Badminton begins at Thursday evenings from 7 - 9 pm at Ebster gym. Ages 10 and up are welcome. Bring a racket if you have one, but extra rackets are available to borrow. Free to Residents, Non-residents $5.

Decatur Earth Day Festival will be held Sunday, April 19 from 1 until 4 pm. The Wylde Center and the City of Decatur invite the community to celebrate Earth Day at the Oakhurst Community Garden. Pre-festival events this year include Yoga at the Sugar Creek Garden at 11 am and a bike ride led by the folks at Decatur Bikes at 11 am; meet at Harmony Park. The Costume Parade steps off from Harmony Park at 12:30 pm. Dress up and join in the fun! This is a car-free parade. You may want to decorate your bikes and wagons! Events at the Garden are from 1 -  4 pm and include music, earth friendly crafts, a Reptile Show, earth friendly vendors, and food. For more information click here.

Beat the Street for LIittle Feet is May 2

The 8th annual Beat the Street for Little Feet 5k and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 2. Be sure to register early to receive the coveted Pete the Cat t-shirt. Information is here.  
Beat the Street for LIttle Feet is a qualifying race for the Team Decatur Grand Slam Fitness Challenge.
