Welcome!

Welcome to our latest issue of Your Community, Your Planet! This newsletter started 3 years ago and so much has happened during that time. However it also feels like so much more is just beginning to really start to happen as well. The seeds have been sown...

Our projects and services...

Volunteer Celebration: as part of the WAVE project volunteers from across the local area had a wee get-together to celebrate their projects and everything they have achieved – many thanks to all the organisations and volunteers who came along and to Heart of Scotstoun for providing a delicious buffet.

If you’re interested in volunteering, drop in to our next monthly Volunteer Information Session on Thursday 23rd April from 17:30-19:30 for a cup of tea and find out more about the Environment Trust.

Anniesland_RocketMeet the Rocket: As part of the Glasgow Local Food Network Propagate Spring and Summer programme we are hosting a ‘Meet The Rocket’ event! This free event will be held from 5.30-8.30pm on Tuesday 12 May 2015 at Glasgow Clyde College Anniesland Campus.

Keen green volunteers wanted: If you want to be outside enjoying the sun, why not come along to our new weekly volunteer sessions every Tuesday at the Kingsway Court Community Garden and help develop the garden!

DoW_300-donationsDe'ils on Wheels hits 300 donations: De’ils On Wheels recently hit another landmark when we accepted our 300th donated bike, a childs bike donated to us by Merry Go Round Glasgow. Please get in touch if you would like to donate to us.

Green Gym at Lock 35: DRCET will once again be joining up with the Green Gym and volunteers from Scottish Canals and SusTrans Scotland for their latest community clean up at Lock 35 of the Forth and Clyde Canal at 11am on Wednesday 22 April. The Green Gym were also busy last month clearing up the bike path in Yoker, check out our before and after pictures

SimplePleaures_ImageUpgraded cycle path is a Simple Pleasure: the recently upgraded section of National Cycle Network route 7 (from Whiteinch to Yoker in west Glasgow) was officially ‘re-opened’, and the Simple Pleasures Easily Found map for west Glasgow was officially launched as part of our Bike Path celebration week which combined some of our regular events with one-offs to make for a very busy and successful nine days.

Second WAVE of WAVE: we are delighted to announce that we have been successful in securing further funding from the Voluntary Action Fund to continue our West Area Volunteer Experience (WAVE) project for another 12 months.

WH Malcolm planning application update: the deadline for submitting public comments to the planning application is Fri 24 April 2015. Find out more info about the application and the communities response.

No-pets-allowed.jpgICYMI - Dogs banned from cycle path: Following recent upgrades to the cycle path, a decision was made on 1st April to ban all dogs from the cycle path in Yoker, Scotstoun and Whiteinch. Local resident D Walker, whose dog April was the first dog to be banned from the path, said “After my initial outrage, I realised how foolish I’d been taking April for walks on the cycle path – a cycle path is for cycles not dogs! Although if your dog can go a bike I think they’ll be OK.”
