Hey Learners --

We Need Your Lessons!

The Lessons from Learners is a featured section designed to support and encourage you, the fellow learners of the MRH community. It is as it sounds -- simply a recap or sharing of a recent lesson from a learner. If there is a topic, lesson or experience that you have been "licking and chewing" on, we invite (and encourage!) you to share and thank you in advance for your willingness and courage in doing so. Putting into writing your lesson is both a terrific way to further absorb and integrate its value for yourself while also providing a gift to your fellow horse enthusiasts.

If you are so inspired please send your story and any accompanying photos to Emily at emily@mountainrose horsemanship.com for inclusion in an upcoming newsletter. Many thanks!

Wanted Horse
Training Program

at

Mountain Rose Horsemanship

MRH is proud to offer a select group of fine horses through the Wanted Horse Training Program™. Each horse in this program has been schooled through the MRH foundational curriculum and has proven themself to be a respectful, willing, and trustworthy partner on the ground, under saddle, and out on the trail. They have been appropriately desensitized to flags, tarps, water, machinery, etc., while maintaining healthy sensitization and respect for humans. Horses trailer load, tie, and behave well for the vet and farrier. They have been properly socialized within a herd, are current on their vaccinations, and have been on a regular de-worming program.

Graciously submitted by Melanie

The stable has proven to be a ripe classroom for learning. It truly amazes me how much of what I learn about horsemanship transcends into daily life. Here are a few of the countless life-lessons I have learned so far:

1. Effective communication - The need for what Emily calls the 4 C's.
I can hear Emily say, "You must be clear, committed, consistent, and congruent." As also just as she has said, the horse is such a good barometer of whether I am being effective or lacking in this area. What a blessing to others if I work diligently at being a better communicator.

2. Timing - We have all heard, "Timing is
everything". I have never been so cognizant of
timing in my life until I started my horsemanship
journey. Observing someone working with a horse
using training sticks, lead ropes, or reins may merely appear as if the horse is being moved around and/or disciplined.  On a deeper level, however, when executed with timing and feel, it means honoring an attempt the horse has made mentally, emotionally, or physically. The use of pressure and release at the precise moment lets the horse know that I notice things he/she is doing. What a blessing to others if I work proactively on timing in what I say and what I do.

3. Observation - This requires patience and time.
One of the mantras Emily subscribes to
and subsequently shares is, "Take the time it takes..." If I don't rush things because of a personal agenda or impatience, I will reap a harvest in my relationship with the horse. It will build trust and understanding which can lead to a pleasing partnership. What a blessing to others if I take the time to notice and listen.

It is thrilling to continue to learn about these extraordinary animals. I am continually astounded at the many and abundant life applications they provide and thank God for the opportunity to work with them and with Emily on this journey!
