Each one of our children is someone's daughter or son. This is why Roots & Wings is so passionate about orphan prevention. We love orphan prevention because it allows us the really neat opportunity to come alongside entire families and prevent daughters and sons from becoming orphans.

When you understand that vulnerable families are capable, and when you begin to focus on their strengths instead of their poverty, you shift your intervention and response to one that breeds independence, rather than dependence. This is why Roots & Wings places such large focus on empowering parents and caregivers.

Roots & Wings is working hard toward developing programs that promote personal growth and advancement for not only our children, but their parents as well.

But working with families is not always easy.

It is not easy to walk alongside parents, teaching them how to love and care for their own children. It is not easy to guide them in their relationships and interactions with others. It is not easy to forgive when they make mistakes that hurt their children.

They mess up; they let you down. But every day we must choose to love and keep on believing. Because believing that someone can and will succeed plays a huge role in whether they do or do not.

We thank God for allowing us to walk alongside these families. Some days they will soar. Others days they will fall. But every day, we will choose to love them just the same.

We invite you to partner with us to help protect children and build up families.

• Praise God for all our child sponsors and the difference they are making in the children's lives.

Robin & Rochelle
We asked a mom earlier last month what she thought we should share with you, our supporters. “Tell them that Roots & Wings is doing great. Tell them that the daycare is functioning.”

We continually pray for God’s direction and for His will for Roots & Wings to be realized. Each month we ask you to direct your prayers to specific areas and specific needs.

And do you know what? Roots & Wings is doing great. Any struggles or frustrations that we have faced have only served to refine and strengthen.

Each day Roots & Wings is able to open our doors. Each day Roots & Wings is able to meet the physical needs of the children we serve.

Each day, through words and actions, Roots & Wings is able to share the transforming truth of Christ with the children and parents. Each day Roots & Wings shines in a community shrouded in pain and darkness.

Each day Roots & Wings is “functioning,” oftentimes better than any of us imagined.
“Jesus died.”

Daniela looked up at me from her game in the grass, eyes wide, her brow wrinkled with seriousness.

“What did you say?” I asked, taken aback at the offhand remark.

“Jesus died." She repeated, adamant. "For EVERYONE."

Understanding dawned on me. This precious two year old wasn't talking about her peer, she was talking about her Savior.

As we shared the story of Christ’s death and resurrection with the kids over Easter, it has been a gift to watch the words of the powerful tale sit with them; to watch them mull it over, and put the pieces together, and allow the significance of that great moment impact their young lives.

Yes, indeed, sweet child. Jesus died for us all.
