Whose Streets?

Many roads lead to action and social change. BMC travels several, including leadership training, advocacy, and direct action protest. Run the streets with us as we declare a new Brooklyn Spring.
Black and beautiful and BOLD!
We’re proud to announce that BMC Lead Organizer Anthonine Pierre, board member Maurice Mitchell, and member leaders Beatriz Beckford and Dara Cooper were chosen to participate in the Black Organizing for Leadership and Dignity (BOLD) Director's Training. BOLD is a national training program designed to help build Black organizing infrastructure and re-center Black leadership in the U.S. social justice movement.
Over the next six months, BMC BOLDers will develop transformative organizing skills and build with 46 other organizers nationwide. Support their efforts here.

Free The Streets
As a part of International Anti-Street Harassment Week, BMC teamed up with the Audre Lorde Project (ALP) for a panel discussion and workshops that explored the intersections between police harassment and gendered & sexualized street harassment in Central Brooklyn. Workshops also proposed strategies to fight these forms of harassment. Missed the event? Catch video clips and get more info here.
Third Rail Podcast
On this month's Third Rail, BMC board member zakia henderson-brown and Crown Heights Tenants Union organizer Joel Feingold joined us to report on the state of tenant organizing in Central Brooklyn and how tenants are reacting to rising rents. We then put to the test the notion that Bed-Stuy gets more political and media love than Crown Heights. Hear what went down here. And SUBSCRIBE!
