JOHN R. RUSSELL HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP
As a tribute to the late John Russell, retired Calhoun biology instructor, Calhoun Community College Foundation has approved the John R. Russell Health Sciences Scholarship. John Robert Russell, or "Bunky" to those who knew and loved him, taught biology for 34 years at Calhoun Community College. He constantly reminded students and colleagues alike to understand the big picture of life and personified this in his interactions with both. He was wise, warm, caring, and always seemed genuinely interested in whatever the person on the other side of the desk wanted to discuss.  He could offer both fatherly advice and simple truth in measured doses that people could understand, and all of us usually turned to him first when we needed one or both. John was instrumental in establishing the Huntsville campus of Calhoun, serving as its first Director for a number of years before realizing that he was getting away from his first love, and his strength, classroom teaching. He returned to the science department for the remainder of his career, where he was a daily source of good humor, camaraderie, professionalism, and a valuable role model for many as the department grew over the years. John would proudly smile to know that we have chosen to honor his memory in this way, because this is the big picture in education to help students in the way they need it!

We are excited to have an opportunity to award this scholarship to a deserving student studying health sciences. It is our goal to retain gifted students in our programs, and this scholarship will make it both easier and attractive for quality students to continue their studies here at Calhoun.
Please join us as we honor one of our beloved instructors who served this institution and the students in a manner worthy of emulation.

RELEASE YOUR CREATIVE SIDE THIS SUMMER!

Are you a creative person with an eye for design? If so, this course will show you how to transform plain living spaces into beautiful and functional rooms.

Interior design takes training as well as talent, and these lessons will give you the know-how you need to design a room from floor to ceiling. You’ll delve into color theory, industry trends, spatial arrangements, floor plans, traditional and modern interior design ideas, and other basics. In addition, you’ll explore a range of careers in interior design and get insider tips for entering this exciting field.

Because interior design is constantly evolving, you’ll also learn about some of the latest trends affecting the industry. You’ll investigate “green” sustainable design, and you’ll find out how to modify your designs for people with special needs.

As you master design skills step-by-step, you’ll complete your first project: a fully developed room design complete with spatial layout, lighting, and finish selections. Your new knowledge and hands-on practice will give you the confidence you need to start creating beautiful residential interiors for yourself and others.

Register today for Introduction of Interior Designs. The class is $109 and only lasts 6 weeks. The upcoming class dates are May 13 and June 17, 2015.
