This month, Cause of Action uncovered an ongoing practice at the Department of Justice whereby Tax Division attorneys, some of whom have worked directly on IRS targeting matters, are assigned to the White House to provide legal advice to the President.
Since these attorneys have access to confidential taxpayer information, this practice raises serious legal and ethical questions.
To ensure that this information is protected and not misused, Cause of Action submitted several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
Read the requests and the letter to the Inspector General here.
Dan Epstein Makes the Washington Examiner’s “New Voices for 2015” List
Cause of Action’s very own Dan Epstein made the list of top new voices for 2015.
This list includes “intellectuals, policymakers, think tank leaders, campaign operatives, candidates, pols, pundits, wonks and others who are pushing our thinking and testing the limits of political possibility.”
Making the list is a great accomplishment for Cause of Action as well as the community of government transparency advocates.
The Examiner even went on to call Cause of Action "the most active nonprofit you've never heard of."
